5 Weeks Pregnant & Bleeding Help!!!!

Hi all, I am really hoping that somebody will read my symptoms & say I had that and my baby turned out fine. I am 36yrs old. This is my 4th pregnancy but I only have one 7 yr old DS. My last miscarriage was in May and I had very similar problems to this pregnancy. I had a brown discharge 4 days ago then the day after I passed a small clot & I have been spotting/bleeding since. The blood varies in colour & texture from bright red to very dark red and quite thick. The bleeding is worse straight after a bowel movement. I live in UK and the Midwife told me 3 days ago that they won't scan me until I am 7 weeks. I haven't had any blood tests or anything so I am just left to worry & wipe. I have never been so familiar with my nethers. I seem to visit the toilet every half an hour to check. I am trying to stay positive that I still have other pregnancy symptoms. In fact my nipples have become more sore. Please help.

Hi all,

Well I have been for my scan and had to have a vaginal one as they couldn't see enough with me being a weird shape. Then it was hurray there is a heartbeat. Closely followed by unfortunately it is not as fast as it should be and also that the gestation sac is an irregular shape. The nurse I spoke to after says this usually does mean the worst although she has had one lady with the same symptoms come back two weeks later and all be fine. I now have to go back in two weeks unless I start to miscarry before. More torture!!!!!! aagh!!!

I've been reading all that you have experienced this past week. What a roller coaster ride. I'm so sorry you are going through this kind of stress and pray tomorrow's appointment provides some definitive answers for you.

Thanks again. You are absolutely right..it is a form of torture. My husband & I cannot think about anything else at the moment...we just need to know one way or another so we can move on. As my son would say "two more sleeps to go now".

Gosh I am so sorry for what you have been through. You would have been totally unprepared for that. To me, it doesn't matter how far along you are the minute you suspect you may be pregnant...you have a baby inside you. Your whole life changes from that day on. You plan ahead including the new little life and then when you find out that is not going to happen your whole planned future comes crashing down in a second. I know how it feels. This will be my 3rd loss (everything crossed it's not). I would like to say it gets easier but it doesn't. You are just more prepared and also more of a wreck while pregnant. I am sending you a great big hug and hoping you find yourself pregnant again very very soon and everything goes to plan. Wishing you the very best of luck.

I am sorry you too are going through this. I just did last week I would be 6 weeks today. This is my first loss. I didnt bleed nor having cramping, just my HCG levels was going down. Did a ultrasound where they found the baby but it stopped growing so they gave me a D/C. My numbers are still going down. My doctor is having me do blood tests every 2 days My HCG level is now at 43. If you do a hpt is will still show you are pregnant until its 5 or lower. Good luck to you sweety..

Hugs

Don't worry about it at all...you are not "going on".  This is a stressful time and I know when I was going through all that uncertainty, posting about it helped.  That's what this forum is all about.

I know, waiting for that ultrasound will be so long.  I hope monday comes quickly for you and it's good news.  Bleeding does not always equal a loss.  But the unknown can be torture.  Keep posting as much as you need to, and hang in there..I sure hope this turns out well!!

Hi
Sorry to keep going on about it. Guess I always hope there is going to be a miracle. I have done another preg test this morning asI have been feeling nauseous and really hungry all the time. Plus I still have sore boobs and am shattered. I did one of the Clearblue tests where they tell you how far along you are as I know the hormones can stay in your system for a while after you miscarry but I would have thought they would drop significantly. Well the test only goes as far as 3 weeks plus conception (5 weeks + doctors). That is what the test came back with. I did the same test on 23rd Sept 2 wks ago and it said I was 4-5 wks (doc). So my leveles are definitely up. In the uk they will not test your HCG levels. I am now waiting until Mon for another ultrasound. I know it's not long but it will be the longest weekend of my life aagh!!!

It is possible, yes.  At 5 weeks pregnant there really isn't much more then what would appear to be like a large clot.  When is your follow up with your Dr?  He or she should be testing HCG levels, or do an ultrasound to ensure that nothing is left behind (I hate saying it that way, I'm sorry).

I wish you healing...and am sending you a hug.  Take good care.

Well another weird thing has happened now. Yesterday I was feeling really sickly and suddenly felt like I was bleeding. I went to the toilet and had bled. I then passed something which felt about the size of a small bouncy ball, bled for about half an hour and then stopped. I am not bleeding today just a slight brown discharge. Do you think that was the baby? My head is totally done it with this now.

Thanks adgal
I am so sorry for your losses also. It doesn't get any easier does it? I am so desperate.
I am booked to go back for a second ultrasound on Monday so I will get to see for certain. This time around everything has been so different. The first time the Sonographer was positive and said it was probably just too early to see anything so they made another appointment for 10 days time. That is when I started bleeding & cramping more & the pregnant symptoms went away so by the time I went back I had had a complete miscarriage.
This time the Sonographer made it sound as though there wasn't a hope. She didn't even do an internal ultrasound. I presented with the same symptoms so surely should have the same chance. Aaagh!!!! It is such a hard/emotional waiting game. Think I may do one of those Clearblue pg tests that tell you how far along you are. I cannot get my HCG levels tested as I am in the UK.
Thanks again & hope everything goes well for you xx

It is not all that uncommon for symptoms to continue on and bleeding come and go during a miscarriage.  As long as your HCG levels are somewhat elevated, this can go on.  It can be different everytime and for every one.

That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with requesting another ultrasound or a second opinion.  It is your right, and you need to do what is going to put your mind at ease.  I did that with two of my losses prior to agreeing to a D&C.  I needed to know for absolute certain.

Best wishes, and take care.

Well, I am totally confused and trying not to pin my hopes on anything but my pregnancy symptoms actually started to get worse yesterday. I now feel nauseous, really tired and hungry. My bleeding also seems to have stopped and I have just had a slight brown discharge. Would this happen during a miscarriage??? When I miscarried last time my symptoms had diminished & my bleeding gradually got worse until it was accompanied by horrendous cramps for two days. I really hope the Sonographer has got it wrong or my dates were slightly wrongs & it was just too early to see a heartbeat. Has any of this happened to anybody else?

Hi all

An update after the scan. Not good news I am afraid. No heartbeat and does not measure what it should for 6 weeks. I have another scan a week today but the Sonographer implied it really was just a formality. Feel absolutely horrendous now as know going to miscarry but at the moment I still feel pregnant. The only positive thing for me is that I can now have all of the relevant tests as I have had 3 consecutive miscarriages. I know some consolation. :-(

Hi there
Sorry I have just seen your comment from the other day. I am so sorry to hear what you have been through. That also happened to me in May. I was spotting & thought I was 7 weeks pregnant. They sent me for a scan. They saw two sacs, only one with a yolk but no heartbeat and I was only measuring 5- 5.5 weeks. I had to wait 10 days & then go back for another scan. The day before the scan I started cramping & bleeding very heavily so I knew I was miscarrying. When I went for the scan I had had a complete miscarriage.
As Jamrock1971 says they know whether the pregnancy is progressing through the measurements. It is confusing and awful because you still feel pregnant (I did anyway). I do not know what to suggest about the pill or letting nature take it's course. I do think it may be better to discuss that with a professional. You are also welcome to chat to me anytime. Take care & good luck xx

Thanks so much for all of your help and advise.I am so sorry you have also suffered losses. It is encouraging to know that it doesn't always mean you will lose your baby. I bled with my second pregnancy and all was well until 20 weeks when my little boy arrived. Then in May, with my third pregnancy  I started spotting & bleeding I didn't worry too much only to find at 7.5 weeks my baby(ies) as more than one sac had stopped growing at 5.5 weeks. It is the hardest thing in the world to stay positive. I am going to call the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do. I have read that low progesterone can cause bleeding and it is very important at this stage. Thanks again ladies x
