5 weeks and 2 days and no heartbeat yet

by BeccaW1995, Mar 31, 2009 11:32AM
Just wondering if anyone else has had this situation, just a little concerned, but feel that it is too early to detect heartbeat at this stage...

From all the reading I have done, I believe it is still very early.  I imagine that some people have, but many more do not.  Over 7 weeks may be a more reliable date - also it depends on your HCG levels.  I hear that over 2000 may see a heartbeat.

Hi Becca,
I believe its 7 weeks before a solid h\b can be detected in Ultrasound to be considered "viable". I recommend ultrasound and not Doppler device, as its much more reliable.

Best of luck,
Anette

It's too soon for hearbeat at this point.   Earliest is 6.5 weeks which is borderline....definitley by 7 weeks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.  I agree with the other posts.  If there is anyway you can get your HCG levels checked now, it may save you some worry over the next 2 weeks. Good HCG #s are a good early detection of hopefully a viable pregnancy. As the others mentioned 5wks is still so early to detect a heartbeat.  Let us know how things go!  Pam

In fact at 5w2d the heart probably hasn't started beating.   Heart beat starts at about the 26th day which is 40 days from your LMP.

Normal time to see the heartbeat for the first time is 5 1/2 weeks to 6 1/2 weeks.  This can be affected by when you ovulated (early or late in your cycle, or if you don't have a 28 day cycle).  At 5 w, 2d, it's not really a concern.  I have met women on here that saw it at the stage your at, and many more that didn't see it for the first time until around 7 weeks.  It can also depend on the quality of the equipment used and skill of the tech.  Congrats on your pregnancy, and I wish you well!!!

When I was pregnant from an IVF cycle, we didn't do a u/s until 7 weeks so we could see the heart activity.  Like the other poster said, I believe 5w2d is too early to detect a heartbeat at this point.  I wouldn't worry about it - wait another week or 10 days and have another u/s done - good luck and congrats on your pregnancy - jen

I went to the ER at 5wks3days for spotting and they did not see a heartbeat either, just a sac and a yolk sac, they did more blood work and my numbers had tripled from the last time, so that really put my mind at ease.

I went to my ob at 8wks for a u/s and there it was beating nice and strong at 180bmp. I am now 20 weeks and all seems to be well (knock on wood)

So, just like all the other lovely ladies said, try to relax and get some bloodwork done if you can!!! Good luck and keep us posted!
