Hi,
I am 40 (nearly 41 and pregnant with my second). I have hypothyroid and diabetes. I also have many adhesions from appendicitis (with heaps of inflammation due to amoebiasis) during my last pregnancy. These make pregnancy difficult, but can be managed. My doctors are not so concerned about the scar tissue. OUr bodies can accomodate.
I truely beleive that our babies are given to us for a reason. There is every chance that this baby will be ok. Follow your instinct on this.
Hugs.
I have been researching on the Internet in finding an article that would help me understand, or get an idea of what other women have been through at the age 40, with their pregnancies.
I just found out yesterday for sure that I am at least seven weeks pregnant and I am 40 yrs old. I have several health conditions that are scaring the life out of my baby. My husband of
seventeen years thinks that we shouldn't go through with this because he is afraid that I might not make it through. I have three sons who are 17,13 and 2.7. I had the two first boys with
only the problems of being huge and naturally. My recent son Kalani, who will be three in January had a terrible time with his delivery, he was seven weeks early and born with a cleft lip/
cleft palate. He also has a deformity in both his legs. He went through two surgeries with one due this winter.
I am very scared at the moment. Of course, it is easy for my husband to say that we shouldn't go through with this, I got very upset with him, I told him, "It is stupid thinking like what you just had, that brought us in this situation", I know for a fact, that I am responsible for this happening as well and I can't un-do it. I spoke to a doctor when my primary was not available
yesterday, and he assured me that there are treatments out here that could help me through. The thing that scared me most is what I have already. I have an overactive thyroid that was just discovered in the last month and now I need treatment. I also have high blood pressure that is currently under control. The main concern I have for myself is; the amount of scare tissue that I have around my stomach and pelvis. The doctor assured me that, when a woman's body knows that she is pregnant, the body will do whatever it can to accommodate for the baby. I don't think your scars had any effect on your delivery nor will have one in April. The big problem we have is monitoring your health, your thyroid, and especially what to do in the event of another
episode of Pre-eclampsia.
This was the big reason I had to have a C-Section for my last baby at a very early date. I am very afraid for my baby and I don't want to take the bad option of terminating it due to my health. It is very simple for a father to say, that you can't go through another pregnancy especially if the baby is born with the same conditions as my youngest, or even worse. I don't want to bring her into this world with struggles, surgeries, heartaches and disadvantages.
I would appreciate your thoughts; your suggestions or anything that you might be able to share with me so that I can at least be stronger.
thank you for your time; Lucy
Im sorry for you going thru such a stressful time.....please keep us posted and baby dust and prayers your way!!
I will keep you in my prayers as well. Please keep us posted. Hugs to you.
Well, since I posted my question, I have been to the doctor every 48hrs to check my hcg levels. At first, I was having increases, but still not doubling. My highest was 2300 and on the next blood test a week this time, my numbers dropped to 1100(last week). Well, I was called into the doctor's office and told that with the light bleeding and drop in numbers, I was surely miscarrying the baby and I should experience heavy cramping and bleeding before and during the miscarriage. So far, I have not experienced any of that and the bleeding has stopped, with just spotting when I wipe after using the restroom. I was scheduled to return to the doctor to follow-up of hcg levels...doctor's thoughts were that the level should be close to zero in a week. Well, to his and mine the levels had increased to over 3000. He immediately scheduled me for a sonogram to see what is going one. According to the sonogram, the sack looks abnormal and empty. He said the shape should be round and mine is not, kind of oval in shape with a wavy side. Also, by may calculations, I should be 7wks (last per Mar 8), but the sack measurements are for 4wks. His concern is the shape of the sack and not heart beat. I will have another sonogram in a week. I am still praying for a miracle. Thanks for your prayer.
I have read many many stories about pregnant women having almost a regular "period" throughout their otherwise normal pregnancies. There are also a lot of reasons besides miscarriage that can cause bleeding. I would want to see a dr. sooner rather than later though. It might help to set your mind at ease because stress and worry are the worse. Other than that, it sounds like it is a wait and see situation, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all works out well for you. Take care.
I pray that all will be well. My aunt told me that she had her cycle for 5 months when she was pregnant and thought she might lose her baby, but she had a very healthy baby & delivery. So...I pray that all will be well with you. Please keep us posted.

Thank you, I have another doctor's appt on Tuesday to do another blood test. I guess once I have the 3rd blood test, I will worry less. I did another hpt today and it is still positive, but I guess it will until all of hcg is out of my system, if I miscarried. I praying I have not. My breasts are slightly sore and I am very fatigue. Hopefully, all is well.

Hi,
Have you called your doctor back? When I was pregnant with my son, I had my period for the first 3 months, but I was in my early 20s. My son is now 17 and he's very healthy. He has slight asthma, but it isn't even severe enough for him to need an inhaler. I would suggest that you contact your doctor again to be sure, especially if you're having severe pain. If it seems like your normal period, then I wouldn't worry.
Take care and all the best to you
