6 week ultrasound

by miraculous, Jul 03, 2009 12:55AM
Hi there

Just went for another internal ultrasound today (friday) and they found a gestasional sac and yolk sac same as on Monday but  still no fetal pole. They measured me at 6 weeks 1 day today..  They said the gest sac and yolk sac had grown accordingly since Monday so that was reassuring but told me to come back in a week to see if they can find fetal pole and hbeat. I've heard all sorts of variations on when they can find hbeat anything from 6 up to 8 weeks. What do you think?

I too hear variations on the same theme but I'll tell you what my re says:  she won't do u/s's until at least 7 weeks.  She says by then the heartbeat should be clearly visible and measured & should be at least 110+.

You're in the waiting game - it sounds like your pregnancy's progressing but w/out seeing everything it's hard to gauge if it's viable or not.  Knowing that the gestational sac/yolk are growing are very good signs - stay optimistic! - jen

I agree totally with Jen.  The heartbeat starts anywhere from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 weeks. My new OB doesn't like to do them either until 8 weeks.  I just had one early primarily for dating purposes.  We didn't know how far along I was.  I have met women here who saw the hb at 5 1/2 weeks, others not until 7 weeks.  The fact that there was appropriate growth between ultrasounds is a good sign.  With my losses, not only was there no heartbeat, but the growth in between was not the appropriate amount.  The waiting is the hardest part, I know.  Hang in there and try to stay really busy for the next week.  I wish you all the best.
