Is there a chance that you could be a little off on when you conceived? Usually the fetal pole an heartbeat shows up between 6 and 7 weeks...so if you're a few days behind (maybe ovulated a few days later that the "normal" day 14, for example), then you're probably right on track. I'm so glad you requested another ultrasound!

Best of luck to you!

Thats great. I agree with Heather, it happened to me once and after a week, everything was fine. Did you mean on the 2nd ultrasound they saw a heartbeat already? Wow! that amazing.Good Luck!

I also agree that it sounds like your dates are off.  If you truly are 7 weeks, a heartbeat should be present, but growth in between u/s is good.  I would request another ultrasound in a week.  Good luck!!

Thank god you had another one done!  Best of luck to you and I hope everything goes good from here.

May I ask how far along were you when they only saw an empty sac?7w or less?Anyway ,this is a wonderful surprise-I wish I could have one like this since I'm in the same situation, contemplating a d&c...I wish you a healthy pregnancy!

by rubyinparadise, Jul 26, 2009 04:35PM
wow!! this is yet another story about an early u/s showing false bad news. i am reallllly trying to wait until i make it to 8 weeks (god willing) before i go in for an u/s. it seems like sooo many u/s that are done earlier give cause for tremendous concern when it turns out a week or two later that everything is fine! wow...
best of luck-- i hope the rest of your pregnancy is drama- free. :) :)

I thought I was around 7 weeks but at this point I dont know what to think. I go in for another u/s this morning I hope to see a heartbeat or something so I kno what is going on. I dont want to have a miscarrige but at this point I want to know either way. it is going on three weeks without knowing.  The only thing I do know is I am not going to plan a d n c I am going to let natural take its course.Because I almost got a d n c due to doctors writing me off!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry that you didn't see a heartbeat yet.Hopefully Wednesday you will be able to see it.Don't give up hope .Sometime it just takes a little longer ,or the ultrasound machine is not as good as the newer ones.I definately would NOT get a d&c !!! I would give it another week and then if no heartbeat you could consider it.  Your bloodwork would show a decrease in pregnancy hormones.Have they checked your hcg levels? Are they still rising? If you can get your numbers with the dates that your bloodwork was done ,we could check them out for you. They are supposed to double every 2-3 days.
I am still praying for you.  Don't rush into getting a d&c. Please wait!! I have saw this same type of post several timeson here and at 8 weeks they saw a heartbeat and went on to have healthy babies.

by adgal, Jul 27, 2009 11:05PM
I am so very sorry.  I know how hard this is.  Come wednesday, no matter what the results, do not let them rush you into anything.  Regardless as to whether they right in their diagnosis or not, there is no need to hurry anything.  You have the right to get a second opinion and to wait as long as you need to.  It is importatnt that whatever the outcome and whatever you decide that YOU feel at peace with your decision, not the Dr.  I will say an extra prayer for you on Wed. I wish you well.

I agree.  YOU need to make the decission to get a DnC (if it comes to that point)  I felt VERY pressured in getting mine back in February.  I DID NOT feel good about it, I even almost walked out of the prep room while I was already on my IV & everything!  Thats how much I didn't want to go thru w/it!  ( the nurses thought I was CRAZY!!!) maybe it was just the hormones, I don't know.  BUT I really wanted to just wait a few more days, even though I did know my bb had died :(  We had a heart beat, & she just stopped growing :( I just needed a few more days to deal w/it I think.
Hopefully everything will look great on Wednesday!!! :-)  I have heard of plenty of stories where the Dr's write them off & 1 week later they go back, & there they are.......heart beating strong!!!
I know EXACTLY how you are feeling, hang in there :o)

Hi,I'm sorry girl it's still confusing about your little bean,I do wish you finally see a heartbeat on wendsday...I had no prior experience of a blighted ovum and can be really stressfull...Well ,in my case it's over,it IS a blighted ovum ,we had another u/s at 8w,still nothing in the sac,my doc is certain,my body tells me it's finished,so I'm scheduling a d&c...Keep posting ,best of luck.

Went to the doctors for another u/s they seen a fetal pole that is 4 weeks still no heartbeat but it is too small to have one............. So, to recap the doctors wanted me to have a dnc a week later they seen a fetal pole. They want to do other u/s next friday to see where we are at. The sac is the size of 8 weeks with the fetal pole 4 weeks. At least I know I did the right thing. Even if there isn't a live birth I did the right thing!!!!!!!!!

You did the right thing hon.  You need to do this your way.  Thinking of you.
