9 weeks with spotting/clots 35 years of age

by srtarita, Oct 02, 2007 01:37PM
This may be a bit long but would like to know if anyone had experienced this.
This is my 2nd pregnancy (1st was aborted 6 yrs ago).  I have been for the past 2 weeks spotting brownish/dark red.  I had went to the hospital about 2 weeks ago and had test done w/ultrasound and all was well.  I also had another ultrasound done on the 26th, all was fine there, found out I was 8 wks 4 days, heart beat of 168.  But I'm still spotting.  I had then went to my obgyn that following friday as a follow up for the hospital visit, she said all was well due date is around 5-7-08 (ultrasound tech est. it 5-4-08).  At the obgyn visit she did tell me (and hospital) that my cervix is closed and all is well but the obgyn did mention as she looked that I had some more bleeding.  Then yesterday I had some spotting(figured it's normal) but had a large clot as well (darkish red like a period clot).  I called the dr. office they suggested to do another ultrasound which I have scheduled for tomorrow (thank goodness) just to make sure all is well with us.  I'm just starting to get terrified that I may be having a miscarriage, I do still have my symptoms, nausea, tenderness of breast, so I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.  I just wish the spotting would stop.  By the way bf suggested I start reaching out to this site, he goes to this site as soon as I tell him anything I'm worried about.  He's such a supportive man and I'm lucky to have him durning this time.

I'm also have similiar problems. I'm at little over 6 wks. Couple of days I found out I was pg I started spotting went on for a week between I saw couple dropped of blood then I start to bled like I'm having  period. Now I'm clotting for 3 days. Kept going dr and kept having u/s but could not detect anything. I'm just emotional wreck not knowing anything but in my heart I believe I'm haing mc. I cramp for 1 day and faith and hope just vanished away. Going to find out for  3r hcg result. I wish you luck and just take care of yourself. I believe you'll be fine consider you're not as bad off as I am. Its a nerve wrecking not knowing. I'm just devesated and preparing for myself for the worst and trying to cope with this the best as I can. In your case, just think positive everything sound good with the baby. I wish you and your baby well.

In both of pregnancies with my kids now (9 and 6) I had spotting the whole way thru...sometimes heavy and usually around my "period" due dates. With my son I had full on dripping bright red blood (Thanksgiving Day) and I was 13 weeks at that time. So far (i'm only 7 weeks) I have had no spotting this time aroudn, but I'm prepped for it if it does happen. I think as long as it's not BRIGHT red and substantial amounts and so long as ultrasounds continue to show everything's cooking, then it's not to worry about. I do agree getting another u/s is a good reassurance check but I suspect they will tell you that some women just spot and bleed all throughout pregnancy for no darned reason. I will pray for a great outcome for you!!

Thank you so much for your comments, I'm a wreck as well. But like you I've been preparing myself as well.  All we can do is just pray and hope for the best.  Good luck with everything and just thinkg positive as well.  And again thank you.

My sister spotted a lot with her first child - this can be totally normal.  If you are not having bad cramping, I would guess that you are not having a miscarriage.  Best of luck at your ultrasound tomorrow!!!!

I had spotting and clots with a pregnancy last fall.  At 14 weeks I had an US that was perfect - they called the bleeding a "subchorionic" bleed, and said the baby was perfectly fine.  I had a miscarriage 5 hours later.  I would get your hormone levels tested and go from there.  The bleeding could mean absolutely nothing, or lead to a miscarriage.  It doesn't make a difference what the blood looks likem bright, dark, thin, or clotting.  They told me my cervix was closed, and everything was great.  Oh, and the genetic testing came back negative for any problems.  I never got an answer except, "sometimes it just happens."  Oh, and the pregnancy symptoms - I was vomitting with morning sickness the day of my MC.   I don't mean to scare you - I was told that everything was normal and fine, and that I should "expect to bleed" since they saw the clots on the US.  So, when I was bleeding later that day, I didn't even know I was beginning to miscarry until I was driving and my water broke.  I had to be rushed to the hospital, I lost a lot of blood, and my BP dropped to 40/20.  My husband thought I was going to die.  I don't wish what I went through on anyone.   I wish you the best.

Thank you to all.  The information is helpful, unfortunately my ultrasound was cancelled today (Dr. is out of the office on an emergency) but I have it rescheduled for the 16th.  But I'm calling the Dr. tomorrow when she's in to ensure it's ok to wait til then.  I'll keep you guys posted.  Thanks again for all the encouraging thoughts:)

ugh, what a long wait.   isn't waiting the worst?   did the bleeding stop?  how do you feel today?

I know what you mean, waiting is the worst, the bleeding did stop and I feel the normal preg. stuff, nausea, tenderness of the breast. One thing I do dislike is the constipation, ugh!  I was very regular before, now I just pee more then the 2nd part of our movements.
I'm pretty hopeful since I'm not feeling major pain, just a very slight cramp every now and then; but mostly when my belly is full of food and water:) I'll keep you all posted.  And thank you for your concern:)  It's nice that now days we do have a forum like this:)  I'm going on week 10(sunday).

I just left a posting regarding early bleeding and cramping before I started reading through some of the prior posts. I saw what you wrote and it sounds like we could have experienced something similar. I am 5 weeks today and woke up this AM with period like cramping and clumps of blood coming out when I go to the bathroom. I have not had any blood come out on the pads I started wearing this AM, only when I go to the bathroom. I am going absolutely crazy trying to figure out what is going on with me. I am miserable!

It sounds like you had the same problem. Did everythign turn out OK???

Sadly to to say I just had MC, tubal pregnancy. I kept bleeding non stop but my HCG kept climbing so my dr wasn't concerned. In my heart I knew someting terribly is wrong. I lost my one tube and ovary. Please go get sonogram just to be sure.   I had u/s but sonogram can detect it faster in my case. I know what you're going thru not knowing anything even my dr can't can't explain b/c some women bled during pregnancy. I hope you will have a better out come then me. My prays are you. Are from AZ.? I'm from Sierra vista AZ an hr away from Tucson. If you like you can email me at ***@**** if you want have any more questions.

Hey everyone; got my ultrasound done today, all is good with it.  Saw the baby's little legs and arms - the baby was even waiving at us and jumping around in there.  Dr.'s feels everything is ok, nothing to worry about.  Not bleeding anymore, just spotting once in a while but brownish but the dr. tells me sometimes that just happens.  I want to thank everyone for all their comments, prayers and support.  I'm having my screening done next week, so I'll keep you all posted.  And again thank you to all:)

I just had a m/c yest. @ 5 weeks. I was spotting very lite for a week went and got checked and my hcg was going up but not doubling like it should then mon morning got up and was bleeding heavy and passing clots so back to ER and did the whole 9 yards hcg only went uo by 10 in 3 days. Had the u/s but couldn't see anything, cervix was closed, they said I was in the middle of m/c. then I noticed at night bleeding suddenly stopped. Dr had me come in to the office and in the am bleeding started up again.Dr checked my hcg to make sure it was going down. But around 3pm all of the sudden bleeding stopped again.seems to me m/c wants the night off.

my gf is 38 and approx 2-21/2 mos. preg. she has a 13 yr old, born when she was about 26, and had an abortion within the last 2 yrs, with a guy who was heavy into drugs and so was she.
she has had nausea and dizzy spells for about 2 weeks now. she continues to use pharmecueticals for pain, morphine, vicodin, percocet, and alot of other ones that are a complete mystery to me. she is also really into X. within the last 3 days she has used lots of drugs and has started bleeding alot. she doesn't know how to tell by the look of the issue  if she has miscarried or if it is normal. any feedback besides the obvious? i know how awful this sounds. believe me. do you know of a good website that has a group of doctors who respond to Q.'s?

I would say go to heathline.com, you can review info and ask questions on different topics.  Look towards the bottom of the page on the left for Kenneth F. Trofatter, Jr., MD, PhD. I believe he answers questions regarding pregnancy. But, I think she needs to go to the doctor and then rehab. Not trying to sound mean, but I'm sure you know how serious this sounds. What kind of pain can she have that requires that many drugs?
