My doctor shared a true story with me yesterday...
A women came into his office...not to long ago... and was having trouble getting pregnant
She had some infertility questions for the doc..... She told the doc that she had her IUD removed about 10 years ago and she has been try to have a baby since then. Yes, 10 years...   She couldn't understand why it was taking so long to conceive.. she had already had a child... previous from getting the IUD
The doc gave her an exam and noticed that the IUD was still inserted in her uterus. Can you believe that?...
The doc said they only removed the string...... and this whole time...10 years... she thought it had been removed
The doc removed the IUD and a month later ... she conceived....nine months later....she had a healthy baby

wow... I have thought about having an iud after this baby cause dh wants to wait and I can't take BCP due to high blood pressure... but I am scared it will mess things up when I do want a baby...

I had IUD, removed it in June, didn't try to conceive in July, tried in August, LMP was 8/13 :0). If I wasn't 40 and knew this was our last I'd do IUD again.

Hi,
I can not take BCP either...it makes me very sick....so after I had my dd I got the Copper IUD..it has no hormones  and it works great.. When my dd was 2 yrs old...DH and I decided to have another baby.....Had the IUD taken out on Oct. 4th and found out I was preggo by 10/31. The doc says there is no waiting period to ttc when the IUD is taken out. If you get the IUD with hormones, then it would be advised to wait a couple of cycles....due to the fact....it makes you have no periods..... I on the other hand ...like my periods because it gives me a break from DH..lol ..Talk to your doc about it ... I trully recomment it... Especially if you are wanting more children....Good Luck

did you have the copper IUD?

by cpatow, Apr 18, 2008 12:35PM
I did havve the copper IUD...can't have anything w/ hormones because of previous blood clot. I laughed out loud w/ your "break from DH" comment!!! So in the same boat. :0). I will say my periods were a tad longer on the IUD, but nothing to really complain about. I'm normally a 7-dayer and with the IUD I was a 9-dayer, but light on most days and only really heavy in the middle 2-3 days.

The IUD was so nice b/c you just don't have to think about it at all. I thought it would hurt to have it inserted and then taken out, but not at all. Totally not a biggie. Coughing being pregnant hurts me more than dealing w/ the IUD!

Me too... longer periods usually 7 days.... light most but with 2 days of heavy in the middle.. I just had my IUD removed yesterday to try for #4, and I didn't even feel the doc taking it out...he ask if I wanted to see it....I said "No Thanks" then he proceeded to tell me the story about the lady ttc for 10yrs..... Then I decided I better look at the IUD .lol
I had a little cramping yesterday with light spotting.... that could have been due to pap also .. who knows..

Wow!!!! Well good luck to you with trying for #4!! That is so cool. Feels "weird" to have it out, huh? Kind of like this sense of freedom that "wow, anything can happen!". I remember when we got preggers in August I was like, "Holy Cow God....nothing like acting fast! Another coupla months of "readying" might've been okay, too". But with so many women trying and trying I knew how blessed we were to have it happen so quickly, especially since I was 39 at the time. Now I'm delivering in 3 weeks and so stressed that the baby will be healthy...ugh.

Congratulations!! 3 weeks... that is just around the corner..
Yes.. it felt very weird.. I called my DH after the appointment and told him I felt free..
It is a really different feeling when for almost 4 years I have had something in me that kept me from getting pregnant and now I don't... Anything can happen now.
Well, I am 37 and was thinking it might take me longer this time around....but your story gives me hope....Thank You!  Do you know what you are having?
