Am I still Pregnant

I am 40 years old and after 3 years of  4 IUI's, 3 IVF's and 4 surgeries for fibroids and cysts, i found out on 12/31/09 that i was pregnant.  3 days late and no help by fertility methods.  I went for my first HCG test on 12/31/09 and my level was 795....2nd test on 1/4/10 jumped to 3219......3rd test on 1/7/10 only went to 4234.....doctor said that it should have doubled and i could possibly be in the start of a miscarriage. :(.....do you think that i should be worried?  Could it possibly be that i was pregnant with twins and lost 1?  i now have to go back for a 4th HCG test on 1/11/10......what are your thoughts?  be honest please.......

Hi there.  This topic comes up here more then you can possibly imagine.  Your HCG levels only double every 48 hours until they hit about 1200.  Then they slow down. My last HCG test went from 1000 to 4000 in a week.  Doubling time worked out to about every 85 hours or something like that.  I was petrified...my Dr. was not.  I am now 37 weeks and all is fine.  Could there be a miscarriage?  Well, sadly that can happen, but it sure doesn't sound like you have any signs or symptoms of it.  At this stage your Dr. should really be doing an ultrasound.....and stop scaring you!  I am surprised he/she is doing another HCG test.  Is this an OB or RE?  I don't mean to put down your Dr., but that is not up to date information.  As someone who has been through multiple miscarriages and now a healthy pregnancy, I can tell you that your numbers are rising, and that is a good thing.  They just will not continue to double every 48 hours anymore.  Please let us know how your doing.
