I was also given the other option- the NT/MAFP- etc. The headHead and face reconstruction Head injury Head lice Indications of head injury Radial head injury OB spoke with me and said chances are- becuase of my age- and the fact my mom had baby with Down's- mine will come back with results that will warrant an amnio anyhow. So with all that said- PLUS the fact that I have had BAD test results that turned out to be nothing (lab error)- I am going right for the AMNIO- but have to wait a few weeks. Dr. said the m/c risk was less than 1%.I have personally (as a teen) witnessed this proceedure with my mother- and ewe ... but not afraid of the pain or anything- just nervous about it.)
how old are you? im 38 and 6-7 weeks with baby #3. they were telling me about some testing and it involves a lot of bloodwork and u/s. seems to me there are so many false negatives and it goes to amnio anyway i wonder if its better to just do it. talk to your dr and see what they suggest.
I'm doing the same thing - going straight to the amnio. With my firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc pregnancy I did the bloodwork and some other screening tests but both my husband and I knew that we would probably be getting the amnio anyway. I am a worrier and knew that my worry was probably as potentially harmful as the amnio. The bloodwork came back with a higher than normalNormal saline flush risk but not horrible. I think it was 1:98. But it did make me worry even more. My 3 year old daughter is perfectly healthy :) This pregnancy we decided to bypassHeart bypass surgery Heart bypass surgery - series the bloodwork and save ourselves the worry and go straight to the diagnostic test. I was very worried the first time with the amnio and to be honest, I'm probably just as nervous. But I know that regardless of the outcome I'm a need to know kind of person. Good luck with your decision.
How far along are you? I'm almost 15 weeks and we have the amnio scheduled for the 9th of Nov.

Do not blame you at all for going straight to the amnio... If I could go back in time I would of skipped all of the lab work and just did the amnio. I had an increased risk screening on my quad screen at 16 weeks. Of course I opted for the amnio and baby is perfectly fine. It would of been nice to avoid the stress of the false positive lab and just get peace of mind with the amnio alone.
I am now 25 weeks with a baby boy. :)
CVS is when they can go up thru your cervix and take a piece of the placental tissue and check for it. I believe (not a DR.) that it poses a higher risk of misc. BUT it can be done sooner. I am 11 weeks and they can do it NOW. But being that my cervix is resting on my pelvic bone- I am VERY retroverted- and I don't have much of it- as I had cervical cancer- I think it would be a huge risk for me/baby.
I do feel good about going right into the amnio. I had wondered before why they just dont do it? Insurance or what?
And yes- they did ask me if anyone else in the family has Down's- it was right on their computer questions- so I will becha that will make those ratio numbers increase- even though I really think it does not increase my risk.
Slipin,
I wish I had gone straight for the amnio and skipped all this crazy worry. I swear, all these tests and high ratios of this, and genetic issues with that, enough to drive one nuts.
I too was told I should do the CVS, but would not risk it. Whatever is...IS.
I have a few weeks before my 18 week level 2, and if anything seems iffy there, will schedule amnio, which would be around the time you are having yours.
And I agree with your risk factory and past medical issues that you should avoid all but Amnio. (PS...glad things are better!)
I would also probably go straight to amnio next time. Those risk factor numbers can drive you crazy. I wish I had skipped all of that. Your right in that CVS does carry a higher risk for complications, although the stats are still really good. 1:100 CVS vs. 1:200 for amnio. It will be nice to have this test out of the way and be able to truly enjoy. Good luck!!!
I haven't even had an internal exam with this pregn.- as my cervix is nothing to mess around with- and I ahve a history of premature labor/cervix opening ...
I feel good about going straight to the amnio- glad I was given the option. :)
Hi, I am 39. My NLT came back as 1.8 mm which is within the normal range but my OB suggested that because of my age the NLT bloodwork would come back as high so the best thing was to do an amnio for peace of mind and like most ladies I need to know everything. My amnio is scheduled at 16 weeks on Nov 12
what is cvs?
