Baby Measuring Small

by People_Person, Feb 16, 2009 02:20PM
I went for my First Trimester Screening today (at 12 weeks 3 days).  While everything looked good for the most part...we were told the baby is measuring small, more like 11 weeks.  There is no question about 12 weeks being accurate and the first ultrasound we had at 7 weeks was right on in terms of size.  Has anyone else had this experience?  I just want to know how worried I should be.  I have a follow up with my Dr later this week but I wanted to check on with all of you in the meantime.  Thanks!  (Note that do take medication for blood pressure and it is well controlled.)

Hi,

Unfortunately I can't offer opinions on the measurements but I was wondering (if you don't mind answering) what bp med you are on as I'm 4w 5d pg and I'm on methyldopa.

Thanks
Joanne

Hello. I can't comment on the measurement either, I just wanted to ask you if your Perinatologist offered an explanation for this?  Also, did they recommend that you have a CVS because this was detected?  Was this considered a marker?

Well I can haha... my daughter measured small early too and I was worried the dr. was a little too although didn't really say it.  I had growth checks every 4 weeks to check on her.  Because I also have high blood pressure and this can prevent the placenta from providing nutrients.. well over time things evened out but they kept checking.. she was born 8 days early 22inches 7lbs 8 oz.. Perfect!  she is now 9 months and has nice plump rolls on her legs.. a little butter ball!  Try not to worry but do ask for growth checks if you want to be sure... they do try to induce early if there is a growth issue sometimes because it can mean that the baby isn't getting what it needs inside...

At 12 weeks I hear it's hard to get a good measurement on the baby.....because they move around and scrunch up and what not.  So....perhaps the baby was more scrunched up than normal .      Was the heartbeat normal.   That's a more worrisome sign if it's too slow. I don't think you have to much to worry abuot...you've made it to 12 weeks and I know at this point you're in really good shape to continue to carry the baby.

I just had a scan today and if you want to compare notes I think mine measured 5.25cm.  Today I am 12w1d.

I think you're baby could have been scrunching up more so than normal.
