jakesgal: Yes, I remembered Mae :) Allison & Chelsee sound great :) The most common names I hear locally are still Aiden for a boy & Isabella for a girl.
Mikahsmom: It's funny, I was one of two Kathleens in high school in the '80s. Most of the Katherines or Catherines went by Kathy, so there were only two Katies (me being one of them) & now Katie & Kate are so
popular!
Quinns momma: Thanks! Ava Kathleen is my favorite too, but I like all three & I'm so happy to learn Avas not as popular here as it may be in other areas. After seeing the Social Security website, I feel like whatever we decide on will be perfect :) I asked my nurse in the hospital what the most popular baby girl names are that she's heard this year & I've decided to ask my ob, too :)
I love Ava Kathleen... It is a classical and beautiful name. It was also on my girl name list before we learned I was having a little boy. I know way too many young girls named Olivia. My niece and next door neighbor for example. :)
Thats so true!! 5-7yrs ago --aden names were SOOOO popular! Aidan, Jayden, Brayden, Haydon, Caden, Lieden (my niece) etc... there are soooo many at my son's school it's crazy!! Again, the hardest thing to do is to name a child!!
Our thing was meanings, could is obviously be made fun of, will it be cute as a baby and strong enough for adulthood. This is why I love my name! I was cutesy as a child with Katie, then when I went into the workforce I changed it to Kathryn but now I just go by Kate. It's Great! lol
Ava is very popular here and Olivia not so much, but is rising, Kathleen and Jaclyn are not popular at all... they are kind of with the Jennifer and Stephanies of the 80's and 90's. A lot of good names have lost their popularity that were good "normal" names like Alison, Olivia, Kathleen and Jaclyn. Sad! (as for boys, they are starting to get really weird, it's rare to find a Matthew, Andrew, Daniel, Jeffrey, Christopher...)
I still swear by shouting the names to see if they work! lol
The other twin will be Alison Mae. We've had that name picked for over four years. I thought for sure baby #3 would be a girl and of course got a boy. That's what I get for only picking out a girl name that time. lol. I like Chelsee Lynn too, probably better as an adult name. I live close to the Midwest, but haven't head that name here much. I live in Ohio. I know Addison is a big one around here and Caden for boys. I thought that was a different name 7yrs ago and named my oldest Kaeden and now it is everywhere. He was on a soccer team with 5 other kids and there was another Kaden and a Kade. Very confusing for the poor guys. lol.
Chelsea Lynn is beautiful too :) I can't remember. What will her twin's name be? Last night I actually found the Social Security website that shows the top five baby names by state for '08 (it doesn't have '09 yet) & for California, none of my names were on the list! :) Ava & Olivia were in the top five for some states in the Midwest & east coast mostly. So, it makes sense that my nurse at the hospital hadn't heard them & why I don't know any Avas or Olivias :)
I think Ava Kathleen is beautiful. I haven't heard of Ava before, but i'm hundreds of miles across the country. lol. Every trend really starts in California and ends up here years later. Not many Sophia's here either which is what I would love to use. lol. Sophia Lynn but instead it will be Chelsee Lynn, haven't talked DH into Sophia unfortunately. I tried.
Melimeli: I'm not concerned about anyone mispronouncing Jaclyn. I actually never thought about it! :) Jaclyn Smith & my co-worker's 16 year old daughter spell it the same way. I like both, so we'll see! :)
don't like the jaclyn spelling.. I think people will say Jack lynn.. but I like the combo jaqueline Elizabeth....
You're all awesome :) I love all the comments!
Hoping4_2 & rubyinparadise: Thanks! I really appreciate your input :)
Mikahsmom: Thanks! Your comments were so sweet & funny. They made me laugh :) I'm a Katie, too. That's why we want Kathleen or Kate as a middle name.
Adgal: Thank you! I'm in love with all three & I'm sure whatever we choose will be perfect :) I'm going to ask my ob what names she's heard from patients lately, too. Asking her & at the hospital is helpful since different names are more or less popular depending on the area.
Tobbeyj: Thanks :) Olivia Jude is beautiful & holds such a special meaning :)
Krichar: My name is Kathleen Elizabeth :) so I'll stay away from that, but will definitely use one as her middle name :)
Pertykitty: Addison Grace is beautiful & Olivia sounds pretty with Faith :)
PamelaBee: Aww, your daughter's nicknames are too cute :) Yeah, I think I only knew of Olivia Newton-John...
Huntmommy: It's funny you mention Jackie O. dh's grandma was Jacqueline Octavia, so we always thought if we named her exactly after grandma, she'd be our little Jackie O ;)
I'm a Kathryn Jacqueline and my sister is Jennifer Kathleen! lol My name before I was born was supposed to be Elizabeth Anne, but when I was born and was VERY blonde my mom just said "there's my Katie" and then had to find a name to match that! So, with all your choices, you might change your mind when you see your beautiful girl! I always loved Ava until I saw about 4 kids in my son's JK class names Ava (and Ethan and Eva - crazy popular names!) Olivia is the most beautiful name I have ever heard!!!!
When we were naming our son, we picked a first name that we fell in love with and used the middle names for family. We narrowed down our list by looking at the meanings of the names - as I LOVED Callum - but it means Dove.. ew, for a boy! lol Just keep saying the names to yourself and calling the "kids" and listening to what works for you. "Ricky and Olivia get yourselves out of the sandbox!" lol Or "Ricky and Ava get out of there" or "Ricky and Jaclyn stop drawing on the walls" (lol cause you'll always be yelling.. lol jk jk) Its the hardest part about becoming a parent! Seriously, this name sticks with them for life!! So you want to make it right!!
Good luck and hope for a healthy delivery and recovery and a beautiful 2010 with your little miracles!
Ava would have been on my short list if I were having a girl. Like Amanda, I love the old film stars! Ava Kathleen is a gorgeous name. :)
I love Jacqueline and Jackie for short. There are not many of them at all. As a matter of fact I know no little ones with that name. It is french and reminds me of Jacqueline Kennedy who was such a classy, smart, beautiful woman. But that's just my opinion.
I voted Ava. I think that is such a cute name!
Olivia is a beautiful name. Only I only know 2 others who named their baby that besides Pam. I don't think it's over used at all. You really have got some good choices here.
Yes, I LOVE Olivia Kate! My daughters name is Olivia Paige. We call her a few nicknames..."Livi", "Livers" and my 3yr old son calls her "E-Ah"
I swear, the only two women on the planet that I heard had the name Olivia, where Olivia Newton John, and the actress Olivia Dehaviland....now it's everywhere...so is Ava, but they are such classic pretty names.
I chose Olivia as this is what we plan on naming our daughter if baby is a girl. We are using Olivia Jude (my late mothers name). I like both Olivia Kate and Olivia Kathleen. I think both names flow nicely. :)
Where i live all i see are olivias and ava's which really ***** because i love both names. I really like the suggestion for elizabeth kathleen (elizabeth is my middle name and if i have a gril will be hers as well), But out of the choices i have to say jaqlyn elizabeth. You don't meet many jacylns anymore!!!
Hope that helps a bit!
Kellie
love olivia kate! olivia is a name i wanted to name a girl since i saw the move the color purple. my dd is addison grace, and with this special girl on the way i think we will use faith or hope as a middle name. olive is so darn cute!!
i know like 5 ppl that all just named their babies Ava..so i personally wouldnt choose that one.
Wow, great comments & lots of votes! :) Thanks, ladies! Our original choice before even becoming pregnant was Jaclyn (or Jacqueline) Elizabeth after dh's grandma & my mom, but a few months ago, I fell in love with Ava Kathleen. As oceanv said, although we don't know Avas, we were afraid it was too popular. Olivia & Ava have been our top choices lately, so I asked the nurse during my last hospital stay what the most popular baby girl names have been. She told me (for our local hospital) Isabella & Sophia or Sophie. When I asked about Ava or Olivia, she said, not this year. So, we'll see! Thanks again for your help :)
Huntmommy: Do you prefer Jacqueline over Jaclyn? I was afraid it'd be too long.
Sue: I don't like the twins-y thing with names, so thanks for your comment! That gives me something more to think about :) haha!
Pamela: Do you like Olivia with Kathleen or Kate & what do you call your daughter as a nickname? I was thinking Liv or Livi. dh said he'd call her Olive ;)
adgal: Haha! Too funny :) My name is Kathleen Elizabeth, so I love that you like it, but I can't use it for my daughter :)
This was easy for me, as my baby girls name is Olivia!
I like Olivia Kate - but the other ones are nice too. Jaclyn might be shortened to Jackie by others - but, it goes with Ricky - very "twins-y".
I like Ava but I think its been in the top 5 girl names for a few years now so there will be lots of them
I voted Ava...I love all the old movie stars. I also really really love the names Kathleen and Elizabeth....how about Kathleen Elizabeth or Elizabeth Kathleen? It's so hard to choose a name isn't it! Anyway, all your choices are really pretty.
