Bells Palsy and Pregnancy

Does anyone know anyone with Bell Palsy?  I have not been around much the last few weeks since my twin daughters were born and the reason is, we were told first that my Emily could not hear.  She has failed two hearing tests but they did say that it may be fluid, and she may have to have surgery, since then I have been sitting her up during the day on Boppys and doing everythign that I think could help [plus a lot of prayers for her and we (hubby and I ) think she is hearing.  Now, on to the Bell Palsy, with all the stress I have been under with Alexis staying int he hospiutal for 11 days and her long recovery at home, and then with Emily's hearing problems and then my son Ethan got a temp of 105 witha  virus, it has been one stress after another, last week, they thought I was having a stroke and took me to the hospital to discover I was developing Bell Palsy, apparently they said that it is becoming very popular for women after they have babies. Does anyone know anything about it? For those who don't know what Bell Palsy is, my face is parlized on the left side. I can't shut my eye, taste food or open my mouth wide. Any infor and prayers are welcome

Hi Debbie, how are you?  I haven't heard from you in a while and saw your post recently.  I have to say I have never heard of Bells Palsy, so of course I googled everything on it.  Wow, what a strange condition!  Is your face still paralyzed on the left side?  I just want to offer my thoughts and prayers to you...and hope it soon disappears!  How are your twinkies??  Hope all is well.  Pam

I had Bell's Palsy when I lost my first pregnancy.  It happened with the change in hormones.  They say it's inflammatory - pressure on the facial nerve that cuts off supply to one side of the face.  For me it didn't last long.  I went on a 5 day course of prednisone and that did the trick; I was lucky though -- for many it can last much longer, but it usually clears up when the pressure eases up on the nerve.  I'm sure you were given advice about using artificial tears and also to tape your eye shut at night.  It feels so strange and scary to lose control of half of your face.  I hope it resolves quickly.  Joanne

I had a friend that got it and that was how she found she was pregnant.  They want to treat her with steriods so the gave her a pregnancy test and it was positive.  It was a temporary deal and after 3 or 4 weeks she was back to normal.  She was planning a wedding at the time and the dr told her it was due to stress.. I also had another male friend who had a temporary case of it...

I hope all is better soon..

My mom came home from a trip to NC with bell palsy, it is a viral infections of I believe the 7th craniel nerve. it is can be very pain full, also it is know to cause hearing loss"maybe the should check the baby for that" I was told by my mother's doctor that it faster you start to heal is a sign of how much damage maybe done.  My moms eye still droops a little and she says she can feel her mouth pull sometimes but thank God the pain is gone and she did not loose any hearing. Did they start you on any anit virals???? I will send lots of prayers your way!!! Oh yeah her face come back to normal in like 2 weeks time, good luck Julia
