Between devil and deep sea-UTI

Hi,                                                                                                                                                                       I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with urinary tract infection. I have no symtoms at all like fever, back pain, pain during urinating. I have been advised to take antibiotics amoxillion, but I am scared to death to take antiobiotics since it may cause risk for the fetus especially in the early development stage. If I dont take medication, there is slight risk of miscarriage and pre-mature delivery. Dont know what to do at this stage. I have been drinking tonnes of barley water, cranberry juice and regular water. But the infection is still not gone. Is it absolutley necessary to take antibiotics or can I forgo it? My aunt had UTI 30 years back during her pregnancy and she said she never took any antibiotics. And she had healthy kids..

http://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/amoxicillin.html

Please read this article re: amoxicillin and pregnancy. It is category B, which means that in animal studies where animals were given 10 times the human dose, there was no increase in birth defects.

It is MUCH safer to take the the amoxicillin than it is to leave your UTI untreated.

How did you realise there was a UTI when you had no symptoms? did the doc test your urine?

You must get this taken care of, it can become a real problem and shouldn't be put off. You can risk it getting much worse w/fever and itcan move into your kidneys. Just be sure your doctor knows you are pregnant, they will be sure to give you meds that are safe.
