I had a cerclage done on Wed. Has anyone had one and did it work?

Hi Amanda,

As 40smama mentioned I had one put in at around 17wks.  I was 4cm dilated at the time and I'm now 32wks so it has saved my baby's life. I have been on bed rest but I know that often when people have the cerclage put in early, before they start dilating, bed rest often isn't needed. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

A lady and friend on this forum Tanker Chick had it done recently at 17 weeks - it has held up fairly well and she's been on bedrest also although I'm not sure how much.  Pm her and ask her some questions - I know she'll be glad to answer any that you have.

Cerclage - it's a stitch in the cervix to keep it from dilating any further.  It's usually done in women in their 2nd trimester who are having this problem to prevent the baby from being born.  Lots of times it does work and the pregnancy is carried into the third trimester.
