Child Support...

My child's father just told me that he wants to be put on child support. Throughout my whole pregnancy he has told me he wanted to avoid child support and court. Now I'm nervous and maybe I should be grateful... I just wanna know if maybe he has something up his sleeve. Also he's military... any thoughts would be great. I plan on speaking with a lawyer soon.

I think it is wonderful!  Here is a man stepping up to the plate to be responsible!  A child deserves both parents to be involved in their lives.  So, while I know it is hard, the best thing overall is to allow this man to be part of his child's life.  Financially and physically---  as in spending time with the baby.  good luck

No problem Britters.. We're all here to help or at least try. I doubt you want the man to get into trouble like everyone's stating. More so you're just trying to prepare yourself for what's to come. Things can get crazy with child support.

They will make him pay.  Like state he can get in trouble for not. Just like if a husband cheats they can get in huge trouble.

I have a friend in a similar situation... Maybe you guys can determine an amount without the courts involvement but make sure it's all notarized just incase he backs out on paying. Sometimes things may work out better with the courts depending on y'all relationship.

Military has a set amount based on his rank that you will get. Tell him to go through his chain of command, and if he doesn't then you can do it yourself. Going to court is pretty pointless when one parent is military. Military doesn't mess around when it comes to child support!

But depending what you two discussed as far as custody, that may be why he wants to go through the court for child support. .

If anything happens you can actually talk to his commander because in some cases it can be a ucmj violation. He can lose his security clearance, get kicked out, lots of bad stuff.

If he is military it will come directly out of his check. You should maybe ask him why he wants it now? Good luck.
