Colposcopy

I had pap done at my first OB appt as part of the routine test. It came back as abnormal with squamous cells. I have had a previous abnormal pap in 2011 & had colposcopy done at that time which was ok. They are recommending I have it done again. I am nervous about having it being pregnant. It is a biopsy of my uterus. I hated having it the first time let alone again. Back in 2011, I was told I will always have abnormal pap & will always have to have colposcopy done. My question is...is it safe for me to have it done during pregnancy? My husband thinks I should not have it done. I am already worried enough being almost 43 yrs old & pregnant.

I went in for a colposcopy when I was about 12 weeks pregnant. They only did the scope part to take a look. No biopsy. I have to go back 6 weeks after my little boy arrives.

I had an abnormal pap when I was pregnant with my second child and they recommended I wait until after I delivered to follow up.  They did a colposcopy about 2 months after I delivered and it was fine. Granted that was 17 years ago... But if I were you I'd definitely get a second opinion!

I had a colposcopy done at 12 weeks but it was just to look at my cervix and since they didn't see anything they would wait until I delivered my baby to do a thorough check. I'm glad u got a second opinion! Good luck

I was uncomfortable with the ob/gyn dr I started seeing. I changed to another dr. & found out the dr. does not do colposcopy when pregnant. She will do it after delivery.

It depends on you after you weigh in the risks. I honestly think anything that invasive increases the chance of miscarriages irrespective of assuarances from doctors -if thereare any. The question is are you willing to take the risk? if I were you I would rather wait it out especially that you have been through the same process 2 years ago an was told your results will always come abnormal on pap smear tests. Its a tough decision and wish you luck.

I honestly don't know if it is safe or not. But I don't blame you for being hesitant. Usually being a bit older and high risk Already and i don't know if uve got other reasons to make you high risk,  but I'd at least get Another opinion.... THATS what I'd do. Sorry can't help more. Good luck :)
