Lots of women have to take pain killers during pregnancy. If you are talking about mild headaches, etc. and looking for something over the counter, tylenol is considered safe. Stay away from Ibuprofen products (unless it is low dose asprin many of us are prescribed). If you are talking about pain requiring something stronger, Dr.'s base their decision on benefit vs. risk. It is important to take only as prescribed and work closely with both the Dr. managing the pain and your OB. THere is high risk in taking more then prescribed or abusing them. If that is the case, do not stop cold turkey, but work with your Dr. and be completely honest. The health of your baby relies on it. Best of luck to you!
When I had a kidney infection around 20 weeks, I was given pain meds in the hospital - which put me directly under my OB's care. Ask your OB about what pain meds you can take and when.
I could take excerdin migraine up to 24wks if I got a migraine. Even though the OB stated it, when I got my first migraine I still called (well has DH call) the office and double checked with one of the nurses.
I hurt my back at about 9.5 weeks and my doctor prescribed tylenol with codeine, otherwise I have only taken regular strength tylenol for headaches and such. The doctor's advice is the best advice!!!
When I was around 22 weeks, I got a horrible burn and had to go into the ER. They put me on lortab and steroids for three days. My doctor said it was fine, just to monitor the baby's movements during that time. I'm now just short of 36 weeks and have had to go into L&D every couple of days to be monitored because of a fairly severe case of preeclampsia. The last time I was there, they gave me percocet for my migraine. My doctor was actually the one who gave it to me.
So yes, I have had to take them during pregnancy. BUT only under strict observation from my doctor. Normally, I just take tylenol if I have pain.
Yes but only what my Doc said I could.
