Down Syndrome

37yr old FTM. I'm having blood work done on the 30th to check for down syndrome. Has anyone done this and has anyone gotten a false positive? This is consuming my thoughts and making pregnancy more stressful than it already is.....HELP!!!

I had the free cell DNA test done last Wednesday. Now I have to wait one week and a half for the results.

To assume people have these tests done with the intent of termination if there is a positive result is rather small minded. Sure, there are some. However, the majority of women ha email the tests to prepare and educate themselves in case there is an issue.

I just got the panorama test last week. Waiting on results. I got it strictly for the gender.

I had a false positive. Got the harmony test done around 12 weeks.  The results were my daughter had a 99 percent chance of Downs.  I cried for two solid weeks until i had the amniocentesis.  Fish test results 2 days later were normal and full amnio results 10 days later were also normal.  Thank you God. My OB said I'm the first false positive he's seen on this test. It does happen.

The blood test (maternity 21)is very accurate and non invasive.  I had it done. I'm 38 it was normal and I found out I'm having a boy!

If you need piece of mind get the cell-free fetal DNA screen. It is an indication for age >35.  Over 99% sensitivity. Sequential screen has about 5% false-positives. Quad screen even worse. CFFDNA screen is just a blood draw from you and non-invasive to fetus.

I'm 27 years old & the blood work put me at 1:143 chance for down syndrome. I regret taking those tests because I have been stressing over my results. I would suggest MaterniT21 Test I get my results back next week!Goodluck

I'm about to be 35 and am not going to do any tests for down syndrome for the simple reason that nothing will change weather I know or not.  I will still have this baby, care for it and love it just as my other children. So I see no point of waisting resources and worrying for nothing.

I'm 37, and had the Maternity 21 testing. While it is your choice to have the testing or not, you will be able to better plan for your baby's needs if you know.

I agree with a a lot of the other posters.  I'm  38 and opted not to because I wasn't willing to terminate.

Those test are usually optional to do,   they just bring more anxiety and worries. I chosen not to do the testing because regardless of the results I'll be keeping my baby.  Just enjoy the pregnancy and expect a healty baby.

I'm having the materniT21  test done on September 24th.  From what I've heard this test is very accurate.  We'll also know the gender before 12 weeks.

I'm 36. I had the Panorama test done. I'm negative for all. I was told this one is fairly accurate and chose to do it because an anatomy scan of our last baby told us he most certainly had DS. We had to see a specialist for more tests and scans. He did not have downs.

I'm 39 and I had the blood work done which ruled out DS, and I was glad I did it. I haven't heard of false positives being an issue, but I'm not that well informed.

Same here.  Im 35 and opted not to get testing done cuz of the same reasons.  I was already having pregnancy insomnia and def didn't need the worry of a false positive consuming my thoughts.  So far baby looks healthy so I'm glad I opted out.

I'm 35 and had the Harmony cell free test done.  According to all the research my husband and I did beforehand the blood tests are fairly accurate, much more so than an anatomy scan and amniocentesis.  It was simple and my results came back in about a week.  There's a 99% chance that there is no downs or other chromosomal abnormalities.  I wasn't really worried about the test because no matter what the results we would've loved our son.  I had it done as a precautionary measure.  I wanted to be as prepared as possible of any complications and had their been any abnormalities it would've been safer for me to deliver at a larger hospital 2 hours away.  Good luck and try not to stress too much.  Also, one good thing about the test is that it could detect the gender with 100% accuracy.  We're having a baby boy!

Im 35, ill be 36 next month and chose to skip the test. Not all of them are accurate and cause un needed worry. If something were wrong we would still love him. If its a big concern for you, some of them are proven to be more accurate than others. Im not sure which ones though.

I just turned 36 and got a false positive. Had NIPT done as well as another ultrasound so far everything is beautiful and am very low risk. Was first told had 1 in 60 chance based on initial test. So unless you have other markers don't sweat it! Good luck!

I am 37 years old as well.  I've heard of MANY getting false positives so we have opted not to have the testing done. Seems like unnecessary worry.
