Early Pregnancy (2wks) - can't stand food.

Finally able to move to this forum:)  I just found out I was pregant on Sunday, but have been testing positive w/hpt's for the past week.

My question/concern is: I have such an adversion to food.  Old my old favorite foods are either repulsive or taste completely different.  I know that I have to eat, but the only thing I can manage to slightly enjoy is just potatoe chips.  I'm love ice cream but even that taste gritty.

I just tried to eat a turkey and cheese panini and that tasted like a sausage and cheese breakfast sandwhich.

Has anyone experienced this in their pregnancies?

Congratulations!  I just came into 16wks pg, and only LAST WEEK did I begin to like food again.  What's really weird is that I managed to gain 10 pounds in 16 weeks with severe morning sickness.  I ate mainly starchy bland foods for the first three months, though.  Super caloric.  Good luck to you!

I would definitely take your prenatal vitamins, they reduce chance for birth defects and help to insure that your baby is getting the vitamins that he/she needs.

I am close to 16 weeks now and foods still taste nasty.. I don't have anymore morning sickness so i can start taking my vitamins..

The only food I can think healthy and taste good is peanut butter and jelly.. I eat 3 times a day for snack...

We are eating for the baby.. not for ourselves anymore.. even the foods do not taste good but we know it's good for the baby.. just eat it.. eat a small portioon...

one more... drink alot of water... prevent constipation...you don't want that happen and of course it will happen.. that's the worst i hate.. you eat alots, but can't go bathroom. your tummy feel like want to explose... Water helps but not alot... eat fiber and try to go each day to get a habit...

Nausea - slice a piece of fresh ginger and put in a glass of hot water.. for about 1 min take the ginger out.. sip that water if you feel nausea... i sip that water after i eat.. help alots in nausea and comfort your stomach.. p.s. it's work for me... hope it's works for you too.

Headache - nothing you can do about it.. tynenol helps.. won't hurt the baby...

when you in second trimester... you feel much better... not alot.. but BETTER....

Feel free to ask any questions in this forum..

:-)  Take care

Thanks.  That is exactly how I'm feeling.  Glad to know I'm not alone, and that this its more common than not. I thought something was wrong. Like you, I'm only eating cause I have to, not for taste, but I will definatey try to eat more healthy.

I feel sooooo much better.

Congratulation... and well come to pregnancy sickness... There are certain foods I can't eat due to this pregnant... I used to love watermelon, drink orange juce, eat mexican food... Now I can't stand all of those..the smell or taste or even just walk by mexican food and i have nausea... sorry if I offend anyone in here... It's pregnancy fault.. :-)

Right now foods do not taste good to me... I eat because I have to get nutrition into my body.. enjoy it.. I don't think so... i lost all the taste since I am pregnant..

Try to eat healthy as much as you can.. if you do have nausea.. don't take prenental vitamins. It will make you sicker.. until you pass your first trimester.. then take the prenental.. in the meanwhile, you take DHA and folic acids..

good luck to you and enjoy 9 months journey.. it's will be up and down.. but it's worth it...

Take care

Just make sure you take your vitamins every day. You might want to drink a protien shake just until you can start having regular meals again.

Good luck and congrats.

Congratulations!  Yes, it's completely normal.  You may not have an appetite for a while, just try to eat healthy nutritious food when you do.  Good luck!
