Early scan showed small pregnancy sack

by helent, Jul 02, 2009 08:46AM
According to the first day of my last period I should be 7 weeks pregnant today.  This morning I went for an early scan which showed a small pregnancy sack the nurse said it measured 4weeks and 6 days and was therefore too small to see if there was anything there.  I am due to go back next Friday 10th July for a 2nd scan.  I've had no bleeding I'm so worried does this mean the pregnancy is not viable and will I miscarry I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced anything similar.

If you are indeed 7 weeks and your sac was only measuring at 4+ weeks that is not really a good sign. It could be possible that you are earlier then you think.  It is also a good sign that you do not have any bleeding/spotting or cramping.

Sadly this could go either way. I hope next Friday you find that little miracle baby in there growing big and strong!!!! Good luck!

As rdh said, this is a wait and see situation.  I have been there, and I know how hard it is.  When they do the second ultrasound, they will measure for the appropriate amount of growth in between.  If it is right, then your dates are off.  But if you truly are 7 weeks, they should have seen a heartbeat and measuring at 4 weeks is not a good sign.  I will keep you in my thoughts.  As I said, I have been through this myself and I know what a difficult time this is.  Take care and best of luck.

Sure you are right it could go either way, think I will just try to stay as positive as possible for the next week.  Thanks for your best wishes.
