Failed the 1hr!!!

by jifnif, Jun 03, 2008 09:32AM
Just got the word that I failed the 1hr glucose.  I knew it!!!  my numbers were 145.  I also had low iron and have to take the Feosol.  Now the 3hr!!  Has anyone else recently had the 3hr?   I can't remember what you have to do for that.  I am sooooo bummed.  I just ate a huge bagel this morning...:(

Ohh yeah , I did I failed the 1 hour my numbers where 139 or 149 cant remember , they put you on a three day high carb diet lots of bread which must contain a lot of sugar then you have to fast from 8pm till test is over , at the test first they take blood ,then you drink twice as much nasty stuff as the first time then every hour from then on they take your blood so that's a total of four pokes, mine came back fine for the 3 hour but the expierence was a big pain in the coolie. I wish you the best

well i had the test a few weeks ago cuz i had GD w/ my son.  that test was 127.  so they scheduled it again.  now the 145.  i don't have to do the high carb diet and i did schedule the test for tomorrow at 6;30am.  To be honest, and i know i did this last time around, i am scared that something will go wrong w/ the baby.  i hate reading up on it and hearing the possibility of still birth.  i have myself freaked out!!!!!

I never had to do a high carb diet but had 2 of the 3 hour tests.  I have PCOS so they did a 3 hour test at 13 weeks after I stopped my metformin.  I passed that and then had the regular 3 hour test at 26 weeks because my doctor didn't think I would pass the 1 hour - I wouldn't have (200 at 1 hour!!).l  I did pass the 3 hour but barely and it has since gotten worse with diet alone so they started me on glyburide a few weeks ago.  I'm being induced Thursday into Friday at 39w2d because of it.

The test itself is not too bad at this stage - it was worse in the 1st trimester for sure.  It was fasting...I got stuck once then had to drink that orange stuff and then got stuck every hour for 3 hours after that.  Not fun, but again, not horrible at this stage because you don't feel so bad as you do earlier on.

If you are only 145 after 1 hour, you will probably be fine for the 3 hour  - Good luck!

I failed the 1 hr. I don't remember what my number was but it was pretty high.  I had to fast for the 3 hours test (nothing after 10 pm or somthing like that) and passed it by the skin of my teeth.

good luck!!

I just had it and I am dragging butt!!  The girl stuck my arm 4x and it is now a huge bruise.  Not very nice.  I am so bad at knowing what to eat.  I don't eat bad as it is so this is really hard for me to understand.

good luck jennyb...the only good thing for me will be getting induced if I have GD.

Guess I will get my results by tomorrow.  :(  Very nervous.

When is the first test usually done?  I'm 20 wks 3 days.  Is it coming up soon?

by mrs5077, Jun 04, 2008 01:09PM
They usually test you btwn 24 and 28wks....I failed my 1hr and b/c my numbers were so high (209) I wasn't even given the option to take the 3hr test.....I was put on deit for a week and monitored blood 4 times a day and it was still high.....now I am on glyburide and diet.....it is working, but I still have some high times in the day.....I hope I can continue with the pill and not have to do insulin.....I am currently 28.2wks.....Good luck with everything.....I would not wish this for anyone it is really hard

It is hard.  Now that I have had the 3hr (which I know it is huge that I will fail) I have been trying to eat ok.  I am starving!!!  It is so hard to eat the way they want you to but of course you HAVE to for the baby's sake.  Well, we will see tomorrow.  I hate the blood pricking stuff.  My heart goes out to life time diabetics.  :)

bummer I guess I passed it cause they never called me but I've never been taken on the metformin so that could have helped me out

by melimeli, Jun 04, 2008 04:24PM
you don´t have to starve... really you should eat 3 meals and 3 snacks... just need to cut down on the carbs.. if I remember like 15 at every meal or something like that.. don´t starve.. the main thing is that they want your numbers to stay even... no big highs or lows so you should be eating smaller portions more often... I had it twice but thankfully not with this one.. it is not a big deal just a hasle that you can´t eat the ice cream that you want.. good luck

well, the tests came back and i do have it again!!

melimeli...i do starve.. i have these cravings where i can actually eat like a box of cereal or 6 pieces of pizza.  I mean I don't do it but I am still hungry after eating small portions.  Something gets triggered and I find myself wanting things that I would never normally eat.  Thank goodness it is only for 2mths.

It is for the best, now at least I will have to use more control on what and how much I am eating and hopefully I won't surpass my weight gain that I had w/ my son.  :(
