Fifths disease

Fifths disease

Some neighbor kids had fifths disease.  I am now 25 weeks pregnant.  I was tested 4 weeks ago and retested last week.  My numbers for parvovirus b19 have gone up from 6 to 7.5.  Anyone else ever deal with this???  I am to retest on Monday again to see if the numbers are changing
Does anyone know anything about fifths disease and pregnancy.  I can find stats on the internet but nothing really talked about what happens if the numbers are increasing.

Of course I have not real knowledge of what you are talking about...but I was curious as I've never heard of fifth's disease....

have you seen this article from the CDC?  hopefully it's helpful.

I am a teacher so I worry all the time about getting these things.  When I was pregnant last year a little girl I knew had it. My doctor told me that there is a good chances you already had it as child and never knew it. He took a blood sample and told me I was fine. I am not sure about the numbers going up, but I am pretty sure that it only causes a miscarriage in the first trimester.  It is probably better for you to talk to your doctor instead of looking at all the crazy information online.

I am sure this will turn out not to be a big deal for you.

I called my dr. back and asked if there was anything to worry about.  She told me that they aren't really sure what the results mean and that is why they want a 3rd test.  At worst she said they would monitor me more closely - like once a week.  I feel great so I am not going to stress.  I was just wondering if anyone else contracted this while prego...

Hi Suzie0224,
Yes I did get fifth's disease during my pregnancy. I work as a school nurse and we had an outbreak last year. I believe I was right around 20 weeks. First they drew blood to check to see if I had antibodies (I didn't). 6 weeks later they checked again and I had developed antibodies which means I did actually "catch" fifth's disease from one of the students. I was really anxious but everything turned out fine. My OB just watched me and the baby closely. It actually was nice because I ended up having ultrasounds every 1- 2 weeks during the last trimester. They monitor the baby closely to check for excessive fluid or any signs of stress. My OBtold me fifth's disease is most dangerous if contracted during the first trimester. I'm trying to remember--I think my 2nd number was much higher than 7.

I also had Fifth's Disease and it was within the first month of my pregnancy, which they say is most dangerous.  My doctors monitored me and everything turned out fine!  I actually had the rash that was associated with fifth's disease and probably got it from my DS since he had it right before me.

gotta tell you - fifth's disease is one of those things that go around with kids - like chicken pox and pinkeye - its EXTREMELY common in childhood - as one person said, most of us had it as a child - but it just doesn't leave a memory because its normally very mild - it can start as a rash on the cheeks - looks like you have been slapped - and can move onto the trunk - some kids run a low grade fever and have cold like symptoms - doesn't that describe nearly every childhood ailment???  lol
Chances are you did have it as a child and already have the immunity in your body - sounds like you are doing everything right - you've contacted your doctor and they are monitoring you and your baby closely - I wouldn't worry too much - many women are exposed during their pregnancies with no complications to either their pregnancy or the baby
