First Trimester Screening

by youme123, Jul 09, 2009 01:26PM
Hi ladies: I had my first trimester screening (nuchal translucency u/s and bloodwork) done at 12 1/2 wks, and I'm 14 wks tomorrow, and I still do not have my results!  At the u/s, the tech and doc said everything looked great, but the bloodwork results had to be put together with the u/s results before a determination could be made.  So, my doc has the results, but she is on vacation until 7/15, and her partner will just not call me back!  I have been calling him since Monday.  Should I be completely worried?  The woman who answered the phone said she'd read the results to me, then she came back on and said she wasn't allowed to read those results to me, because she's not a doctor and not to be worried, because it's nothing horrible.  Which of course made me worry sick.  So, what should I do?  Would you be terribly worried??  I'm 37 yrs old and just want this baby to be healthy.  It's been a terrible few months (mom has had multiple heart attacks, a surgery, I've had heart pain, and I've been so sick).  I just need some fantastic news about this little one.

That would frankly really make me mad. I would either have to go down there or demand a Dr. to speak with. I mean, how can she say, hmmm they're not bad but I can't read them. Well, she kinda just did right? I would call back. I'm sure all is well :)

I agree with Kelly.  Those are your test results, and they have no right to keep that information from you.  I have no doubt everything is fine, but still, that would make me anxious.  Just not right to do that.  My OB has a policy about not giving test results such as beta, etc. over the phone.  I demanded the info, and that policy has changed...at least for me anyway.  Good luck!

Nothing makes me more furious than to hear things like this, if you are able to,  just front up to the surgery and demand those results they are YOUR results
I'm sure everything is just fine though

Where I work as an ultrasound tech (and perform FTS), the FTS go through the genetics department.  If you cannot get an answer from your doctor, I suggest calling the hospital genetics department, speak with the supervisor, and see what you can find out.  It is not acceptable that your results have not yet been shared with you.

"Nothing to be worried about because it's nothing horrible".  I hate double negatives, aargh.. Did she mean "nothing to be worried about because it's all good?"

Screw that nonsense.  I can understand a tech not being allowed to give results.  But that Dr. who is covering is allowed.  And I would very calmly but assertively demand to know my results.

Good luck.
