For those that have seen an RE: meds to induce menstruation?

I have my initial consult with an RE next week.  My cycle is nowhere to be seen (not totally uncommon for me) and my last period was in mid-December.  My OB was fine with giving me an Rx for BC pills to induce a bleed, but when I called the RE's office, she said that I shouldn't start them and that we will talk about an alternate route at the appt.

Now I'm just curious what types of drugs they would put me on?  Are there stronger injectibles to induce a period?  I've only been on either BC pills or progesterone (Prometrium) to start in the past.  Anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you!  My appt is on Tuesday, so this will for sure be something we will discuss.  he didn't want me to start a month of BC pills, so hopefully he has something better up his sleeve.

I was worried that prometrium and Provera were basically the same, but hearing that there could be different outcomes leaves me hopeful.

We CAN get pregnant!  I just need my cycle back!!

Thanks again for your input.  :)

prometrium delayed my cycles until I stopped taking it and finally AF showed.  If it hadn't shown my RE was going to prescribe provera.

I have heard that many have taken prometrium to induce AF and it would show within a few days after the last pill.   However when on provera AF would show while they were still taking the pills.

I would call your dr and tell them you had finished the prometrium and no AF showed maybe they will prescribe you provera.

Thanks for your response!

I'm wondering though if provera is essentially the same as Prometrium?  I know Prometrium is more of a natural progesterone and Provera is synthetic, but I have already done 10 days of prometrium and no period came.  Ugh...so frustrating!

I have not been diagnosed, but I have heard of Metformin.  Of the symptoms of PCOS, the only one I have is the absense of a cycle.  I will for sure ask about it...it's worth a shot!

I was put on provera to induce a bleed after my m/c and my cycles were still all over the place.

Have you been diagnosed with PCOS?  With my friend she had cycles all over the place and was diagnosed with PCOS and she is on metformin which helps keep her cycles on track so she could continue to ttc.  She's now 5 months pregnant.
