Friend measuring small at 31 weeks - how bad is this?

by AshleysMom, Feb 25, 2008 10:37AM
Hi ladies:

A co-worker is measuring pretty small for 31 weeks. Her doctor sent her for an ultrasound.

Anyway, the stomach is measuring at 10%, the rest of the baby at around 30%.  How concerning is this?

She did say her dates might be off, but should the stomach measure that much smaller?

Thanks.

I would think that even if her dates were off that the measurements still wouldnt be that off.  Wow, what is the doctor saying now?

how can her dates be off is she has had an u/s??

Got me.  The whole thing is kind of strange.  She's been measuring OK until now.  In fact, at one point they moved her dates up a week.

She's going to have scans every few weeks to track it.

She's not worried about it.  Guess she doesn't spend as much time on the Internet as we do.  Plus, this is her first preg.

I'm sure everything is fine.  Are your measurements consistenly small?  I would worry if one organ were way smaller than the other parts...

They can't tell THAT much from ultrasound though.  Everyone said my DD was small and she came out at a whoppin 8lb 6oz.

well because of my high b/p they are monitoring.. she measures 42% a month ago and we they said they just want to make sure it doesn't go further down... we will see... before that she was 5 days ahead at the nuchal scan and then at my 18w she was right on then at 23 she lost a week.  so we will see...

This whole thing is so stressful.

I think life would have been a bit easier before all these tests!

Hey ladies:

Just an update.

She is now on complete bed rest.   Her doctor thinks working at the computer all day could have restricted blood to the baby.  Has anyone heard of this?  Heck, I'm at it at least 9 hours a day.  I've never heard that it's a hazzard...

My friend just had her baby yesterday and when she was I think 20 weeks they told her that they couldn't find the baby's stomach.  It turned out the baby has a stomach and they found it the next u/s.  I know it's hard but I think it's so hard for them to tell things sometimes.  I felt so bad for her she was freaking out.  Then when they found it they told her that maybe she hadn't eaten in awhile...she had to go like 3 days thinking the baby didn't have a stomach...sometimes you wish they didn't have all these fancy machines....I hope your friend is fine!

Thanks.

She's not that worried.  She doesn't spend as much time online as we do AND this is her first preg.

I remember how ignorance was bliss with my first pregancy.

Take care of yourself, and thanks for the info.
