GYN wrote me Femara

I posted on here the other day that since being off the pill, my ovulation has been infrequent and I missed another cycle in Dec-I am frustrated and my RE does not like writing scripts for this stuff unless I'm getting an IU. But I want to try naturally for a couple of cycles and see what happens. My FSH is 10 and I am in my upper 30's and I believe I need to be a little aggressive. Well, the gyn agrees. I saw another dr in the office that my sister sees-very nice and he reviewed my blood work and reviewed a little of my history. He said he has no problem prescribing me something. he said Femara was a little better than Chlomid because it's 'easier' on me, and insurance may cover it. I happen to be on day 3 of my period too, to he says to start it immed and take it until day 7. He prescribed me 5 mg,  4 months worth and yes, insurance covered it! So happy, I was afraid they wouldnt and the pharmacist said I am lucky since this would have costed me $498 without insurance (at Walmart even) and I would have beeen SOL!!! So, the doctor  also agreed I should get a couple of IUI's through my RE first before I move on to anything else. He also said I need to get an HSG to check my tubes, which I will should I choose to do IUI's also. the gyn was a little surprised why my RE would not write me a prescription for ovulation-  he agreed that I need to get the ball rolling here. he also said to get my progesterone checked on day 23-25 and I am going to go back in a couple weeks to get that blood work too. So I am on Femara now and doctor also told me to use the OPKs, BBT seems to be a little inaccurate especially with alot of us lacking sleep. He said my most fertile days are as soon as I get the positive, and the day after- thats it. If I do not ovulate this cycle, come back and see him. So thats good news. Has anyone taken Femara? Any side effects? Thank you

I am 39 (the hubs is 44), married 11 years, no children, been TTC our 1st child for 1-1/2 years, have had 3 m/cs since Oct. 2009. After 2 cycles of Clomid (100mg - too high; 50mg - too low...I feel like the Goldilocks of infertility) my RE put me on 5mg of Femara (letrozole) CD 3-7 this month. Per my Clearblue Easy Fertility monitor, it's been game on with the hubs this week. The 2WW starts this weekend. Clomid side effects were awful (hot flashes, mood swings, nausea). Not too bad with Femara - just some hot flashes.

I'd love to know if you have success with Femara. Here's to Good Luck for is both!

Hi,

I did femara with IUI.  No side effects for me except pregnancy.  Unfortunately I lost that pregnancy at 12 weeks, but I'll be trying again (also with femara) this month.

Femara doesn't affect cervical mucous or endometrial lining so is better than clomid in that respect.  I had lots of symptoms on clomid.  None at all on femara.

Best wishes.
