Got a call form the midwife, "Dr did not like my numbers at this stage" and wants me to come in today for an ultrasound and see a DR to go over results.
What the ***?
According to what I read, 908 is a normalNormal saline flush range for where I am at....they said I am more like at a 2 week stage? Huh? I found out I was prego 2 weeks ago! My numbers seem consistant of 5 weeks according to the charts on HCG!
I think you need a new doctor that understands HCG. Most doctors don't like to "chase" numbers - yours are doubling just fine and are in the normal range for your gestational age. At this point an u/s will only confirm the pregnancy is in the uterus, but you probably won't see a hearbeat just yet - that is usually at least 6.5 weeks at a minimum.
I was certain of my dates too b/c I started on progesterone supp 3 dpo (or what I thought was 3 dpo) but at my first u/s I measured 1w1d behind. I go today for my 2nd scan and pray that this little bean has been growing fine and that it just took its time implanting and that is why I'm measuring behind. My doctor said there was nothing to worry about, from the first u/s all looked great even though I was off by a week to my LMP.
But for your doctor to judge based on hcg that is doubling properly and is in the normal range and say there is a problem is crazy on your doctor's part. Nice bedside manner....I would seriously consider switching!
Honestly, I see absolutely no reason for concern.. It's annoying when I read posts like this. Not that we know more than Dr.'s but I have been through this 4x and I do know that from what you are telling us there is no need for concern... BUT, you will get an u/s out of this, YAY!! BUT, ugh, then again, why an u/s so early? There is nothing to see?? You are just 1 month pregnant right? Okay, annoyed again.... He should know better. As long as he's not looking for ectopic, there is no reason for the u/s. Look for a new Dr. and have an u/s at 6 1/2 weeks :)
Thanks girls...they did also mention ectopic (due to my age), but that is why they had me do another HCG test yesterday. Now they have me worried....arrgggg!
I agree with the other women and I'm upset that your Dr. expressed concern!! Your hcg levels are rising as they should and are within published range!!
It looks like you are one week behind me as my LMP was July 19. I, too, discovered I was pregnant 2 weeks ago, and I've been going to the clinic every two days for a beta. In fact I'm waiting on pins and needles for the call today from my morning's bloodwork! (And btw my Dr. wants me in for an u/s this Friday but it's too early to see the h/b !)
Please, please, please don't worry. I've posted on here about my worries as well and I got some good advice. It doesn't matter at what level you started, so long as they are rising!
It's too early to see the h/b at your u/s this afternoon but they will see the sac and possible the fetal pole.
HCG levels can't indicate an ectopic in and of themselves. I really think that your doctor is confused (maybe he thinks you are another patient, I don't know...) because a number of women would only be finding out they are pregnant about 16-18dpo and if you would have waited, your starting number would have been about 200-400....a PERFECTLY WONDERFUL starting number!!!
I can't get over this doctor....I'm on pins and needles to find out what he says now, too! I really hope you ask him point blank why he is concerned about the numbers BEFORE doing the u/s!!!
Well, had the ultrasound . Was told when i went in that they wanted to check due to my previous illnesses and also because of a pain I had on my right side briefly the other day.
So, had the ultrasound and saw a cyst (pregnancy cyst?) on my right side they want to watch.
After MUCH searching, the ultrasound tech found a clear spot that appeared to be the "bean" and took a few pictures. (.37cmx.22cm) and it was too early to see if ectopic (harder to see than in the uterus?) so the tech had no idea why I was there.
I don't frigin know...perhaps time to switch DR's....arrggg
Yeah, switch dr's! There is NO reason for that Dr to scare you like that! These numbers are TOTALLY normal! I bet you go back & get an US in 5-7 days, & you will see your little peanut!
Don't stress too much, it's not good for either of you!
I'm glad that you were able to see a 'bean', at least. But I have to agree with others, I think it's time to find a new doc! Good luck and wishing you a happy and healthy nine months!
As far as being 'not as far along'...it can vary, regardless of you knowing when you had sex. The baby maybe took longer to implant and start growing, so dates can be off as much as a week from what a woman might think she should be. That's why they re-adjust due dates, etc. from the first u/s and even later sometimes.
I hope that the u/s goes well and you are able to get good news! I'll be sending positive thoughts and prayers to you :)

Last HCG was 4 days ago...908.
Took another this morning (4 days)..a whopping 5,647!!!! I more than doubled!
I will be 5 weeks on Sunday.
I htink i have to stop my freaking and let the HCG tests go...it is I that is being such a freak demanding the tests.
I feel a bit better now!!!
