Hi risk for trisomy 18/13? first trimester test

I just got my results and I want to share it with everybody so we can compare and chat about it.

these are my numbers:

42y/o
14 weeks pregnant today


nucal test  1.18     or    (1.8mm)


blood test results:
test for SOD ( syndrome of down) is :            
cut off trimester  is 1 in 307            
  risk before screening:  1 in 45        
   risk after screening : 1 in 881



test result for trisomy is;    
cut off trimester  is 1 in 150      
risk before screenin 1 in 82          

risk  after screening      1 in 109 (increased risk)

anybody wants to share their numbers?

As Ecologic said, 1:13 is a higher risk then most.  And it was for one of the Trisonomy's.  Trisonomy 21 is Down's Syndrome.

Amnio was actually pretty easy.  I checked out the Dr. performing it, and he had an excellent track record for complications, so the risk of a problem was more like 1:1600 then 1:400, so I felt very comfortable.  The needle was scary to look at, but the procedure was virtually painless. I had no complications at all.

I had the procedure on a thursday, and took it easy the next 3 days.  All was fine.  THis was all actually my last pregnancy last year.  I am only just coming up to 6 weeks now, so won't have my first trimester screen until early Jan.  We will decide whether or not to do amnio again at that time.

Here are mys results, done when I was just turning 41 last year:
NT: 1.6mm
Down syndrom (syndrome) risk (trisomie 21): 1/1200
Trisomie 18: 1/434

I had an other blood test 2 weeks later and my results were:
Down syndrom (syndrome): 1/1600
Trisomie 18: 1/43,000 (yeahs that's good of a jump!!)
Trisomie 13: 1/3700

Good luck, your numbers look fairly good! Ask to have the 2nd blood test - done around 16 weeks I think.

I can probably dig all of this up in an old journal, but I do remember for certain my risk for DS being 1:13.  All is just fine, although I did opt for amnio to fine out for certain.

1:13 is this high or low?..I am confused with all these numbers

I am more concern about the trisomy

about the amnio let me know how it went...and the results.

also remember to rest at least 4 to 5 days. i have read a lot about it . it seems is not that bad but you need to rest

I can never forget my numbers , if you ask me in 10 years i will know by heart... the strees was so hush



I decided not to do the amnio, i will go at 17 weeks for a new U/s and test blood like ecologic

1:13 is a high risk. The lower the 2nd number, the higher the risk.

Good luck with the 2nd blood test, I hope the numbers will rise!

I just got my blood test results yesterday. I'm 38 (will be 39 in February).
NT = 1.1
Downs risk = 1 in 2000
Trisomy risk = 1 in 18,000

I was surprised (and grateful!), as I thought your numbers are sort of automatically higher when you're over 35.

That is NOT TRUE! I know firsthand since my 2 year old has Down Syndrome. Any number under 3 should be considered normal.

Most doctors want to do an amnio if the # is 3+

The test is meant to be done between weeks 11-13. The best time is anywhere in week 12 or the end of week 11, beginning of week 13.

The further along you are the bigger the measurement.
Also, even though mothers with Advanced Maternal Age have a higher risk based on age literally %80 of babies born with Down Syndrome are born to moms UNDER 35.

TJ was born when I was 21. I don't know his NT number but he showed several soft markers. his measurements were off, and he had heart defects.
As for Amnios~

The normal risk for most doctors who do the amnio is about 1:200-1:300 and the risk for CVS runs about 1:100 smost places since it's a fairly new procedure.

I've had amnios with both my boys with no complications following it, you've got to rest about 24hrs after the amnio so you don't go into spontaneous labor or contractions.

Anchee is right,  it's GREAT numbers!

My actual #'s for having another child with a trisome (down syndrome) is 1:100 automatically even though I'm only 24 now.

I think you misunderstood what I said.  The nuchal fold was not 3+, the odds for downs based on bloodwork and nt were 1:13.  That is higher risk then normal, and why I was encouraged to have amnio.

I apologize sincerly to Adgal. I didn't read what she wrote thoroughly (sp?)  and it was my own fault for being in a hurry.

As Adgal said that the odds for DS based on bloodwork and NT caused her to have a higher risk.  that IS a higher risk than normal and why the doctors encourage amnio.

Again, I am VERY VERY Sorry for misreading. OP's numbers are very encouraging. Based on your age your numbers are definitely good. make sure to check with your doctor.

Thank you! I took my test at 12 weeks. I'm due on May 15th. I was really scared going into the test because I have quite a few health issues (type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, a past history of high blood pressure), all of which can cause major problems for the fetus when uncontrolled, but I took the chance anyway. I have to go in for the second part of the blood test at around 18 weeks, so I'm not completely out of the woods, but I figure I can't really control what will happen. So keeping my fingers crossed!  :o)

I'm a preschool teacher and I've seen this throughout the years I've worked with young children.

I have a special fondness for kids with DS. I think they are so loving and delightful! Can *definitely* be a challenge but also full of life and joy. We had a little boy at our school with DS once. He had to transfer to another school but we all just adored him! And these days, with early and thorough intervention and education, kids with all kinds of challenges can lead perfectly good lives.

my cut off number is 1 in 150 for trisomy so after the test i suppoed to have more than 100 and i got 109. So it seems my chances are 1% to have a baby with defects. the n umbers are based on my age

I denied the amnio, at this point its what it is.

Now , this kind of things make me very uncomfortable,, i should have google this things before to have an idea of all these test. today its to much info to take at once( the age, the test, the pills..the doctors..etc...too much stress


if i have informed myself about all the risk after 35y/o , I am finding myself very selfish saying i wouldnt even try.  

I think is very brave to see all these woman having babies at late age and no stressing out about having a baby with problems. I though that this problems are genetic and as i learn everyday its not..it can happen to anyone .

its very hard for me just to even think about having a baby with problems &  i hope and i pray for all the babies in the world, i just pray for all of them to come to this world healthy.

This is my first one and definily the last one.

great news!.......
I had 1% of chance of my child (as per the blood test) to have T18. i didnt do the amnio and since it was 1% only i took the risk.( 1 in 50 chance)

Jacob was born 1 week ago and he is a perfect child!.... super healthy and too gorgeous.

I had so many  bad moments thinking because of this test and i was so scare since I am 42y/o. this doctors should be more careful the kind of stress they put you through.
