High FSH Level @ Age 27

by melz1982, Nov 08, 2009 01:32PM
So I'm very new to all this and I'm trying to take everything in....doing research on the internet to find out what FSH is what it means to have a level of 15 at age 27, what to do (if anything). As my doctor (fertility specialist) hasn't been much or support. Has told me this isn't the end of the world and not a big thing....for me it is, as there has been nothing more then I've ever wanted then a child (which is very important to my partner as well-which he is having a hard time coping). Since I'm not getting help or answers or lead in the right direction from my doctor on what this means for me and I have read everyone's story -very strong women you are, I am hoping someon can help me with this.
I understand everyone is different and bodies respond differently, and not everyone is a doctor, but is there a chance of use still concieving a baby (has to be done IVF), is there any way to lower my FSH level.
Any help, support or suggestions would greatly appreciated - as I'm totally devestated

Thanks

Hi!

I'm not an expert in this, but here are a couple of things I know:

a) many older women with FSH levels like yours have had children
b) fertility experts say that a woman's age is more important than her FSH level in determining her fertility

So, since you're only 27, I think you still have a reasonable chance of conceiving. It also might be helpful to have a second FSH test, since the level can go up and down a bit.

As far as lowering your FSH, some people have had luck with DHEA and/or vitex (chasteberry).

Best wishes,
~Wendy

First off, I'm glad you're taking a positive step into educating yourself. I kept going to doctor appts without understand everything. I would have asked questions earlier but I was scared and in denial. I kept thinking this is not reality.

I'm not a doctor but my husband is a MD...We've been dealing with infertility for a few years. I'm 40 y.o. and have been diagnosed with high FSH. In the beginning at 37 y.o.  I kept thinking I need to get my fsh level down, but my husband has explained fsh is only a factor that doctor use to determine egg quality. Doctors are not 100% accurate...they're giving you the best answer from previous experience.

My doc told me i can never get pregnant...after 1 cycle of ivf and 3 iui's which all failed. I got pregnant on my own! We lost the baby but it happened on its own. I was able to conceive but I found out there was chromosomal abnormalities. Everyone is an individual, my experience is obviously different. You're 27!!! Keep staying positive:)

Things I've done along the way...
-No caffeine
-No alcohol
-Wheatgrass Juice!
-Exercise and make sure your BMI is under 25
-Reduce Stress (meditation, yoga)
-Vitamins Prenatal
-Eat organic whenever you can

I went to the hospital to repeat my cd2 fsh test. I have been very depressed for a whole month, I was very nervous to do the test, I was afraid it might still be high. DH went with me and he has really encouraged me through the whole month. I did the test and the results are very good. My fsh is 8.9. Yeh! I am so happy. Last month it was 42 and today its 8.9.I dont know if the royal jelly, bee pollen and omega3 has played a big role, but am thankful to God.We have a MFI, dh has azoospermia, we did biopsy with no success, and now we want to try TESE/ICSI. in next month. I wish all of you the best and super sticky baby dust. I will always keep you in my prayers. We will all hold our boundle of joy one day, and i pray its soon.
