How far along until you must not lay on your tummy?

by KStarr07, Oct 17, 2007 03:14PM
This might seem like a silly question, but I know that you are not supposed to lay or sleep on your stomach while you are pregnant, for obvious reasons.. However, I usually sleep partially on my stomach.. is there any certain date to which you are "allowed" or when you just start to show, or what?

Prior to becoming pg, I was a full-on belly sleeper.  I am 20wks now and still kinda sleep on my belly also.. I'm bascially on my side but leaning forward toward my belly.  I've tried to use a pillow under my knee to keep me from leaning forward but it ends up keeping me awake and getting the in way..  I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd say if it feels like you are putting to much pressure on your tummy than you probably are.. If you aren't putting a lot of pressure on your tummy and don't feel any effects from it, like numbness or discomfort, than you are probably okay.. but I'm no doc.

Good luck to you

i never heard of that rule.  hmm.

my first preg, once i started showing, it was just uncomfortable to lay anyway except on my side or back, so i always slept on my side with a pillow propped between my legs (like tanker chick)

When I lay on my tummy or partially on my tummy I notice the baby kicks a lot (I am 26 weeks now).  So I am guessing maybe she is getting a little squished or uncomfortable.

I would wake up on my tummy regularly. In fact my body told me when I couldn't anymore, so don't worry, you will know.

I am a back sleeper but now 8 weeks pregnant and still find myself on my back sometimes at night.  Is this dangerous and when is back sleeping a no no? thinking of propping a pillow behind me to prevent me turning over from my side..

I am also a back sleeper and now at 26 weeks I can't help but still lay on my back sometimes.  I am not too big yet so it is not uncomfortable.  I asked the resident at my last appt if it was OK and she said at this stage yes it was fine and that at some point I just won't be able to lay like that anymore.  I try to stay on my sides but it doesn't always work.  At 8 weeks I wouldn't worry about it.
