I need advice on Ovulation Predictor Kits!!

by traceynjar, Nov 03, 2009 08:45PM
Hey you guys.  Obviously I didn't conceive this month.
I start clomid again tomorrow and doc says I must use an Ovulation Predictor Kit this month.
I've used them before, both the digital and the ones with lines.
I've had trouble reading the ones with lines before and the digital one's are expensive.
Please help me with your suggestions and advice.  Particularly on reading the lined tests - including
whether you've had trouble like me noticing if the detection line is as dark or darker than the control line.
Thanks in advance for all you're help.

I used the Answer opk and the line never got darker than the control line like they said it would. It never even got as dark as the control line. However around 4 days before O it started to get darker and then on the day of O it peaked before getting lighter the very next day. I saved the strips and lined them up next to the sink then by looking back was able to figure out what day O was. They looked like a wave almost lighter to darker then light again. It worked for me. One month of figuring out the strips and my cycle and then I got pregnant the next month. Good luck.

I used the Clear Blue Easy digital one with the smiley face.  I had an idea when I would ovulate so I got 2 months out if it.  It was the first time I had ever tried using an OPK and I got pregnant my 2nd month!  It was really easy to use and you didn't have to be a scientist to try to decipher lines.  It was very simple....if you're not ovulating it'll just show you an O face.  If you are than it'll change to a smiley face!

Good luck!

I also use clear blue easy because the smily face is much more easy to understand than the strips.  But they are pricey so I understand that the strips are economically a better choice.

I am also on clomid.  A note:  Clomid can cause a false positive on ovulation.  Talk with your doctor about this, depending on when you normally ovulate.  But for me, I normally get my surge on day 10.  I had a positive on day 8 with the clomid.  My RE suspected that it was a false positive and an us confirmed that it was false.  So, just something to keep in mind.  We relied much more on the scans to measure follicle size starting on day 11 than the OPK.
