I want to get a Cooper tattoo- But is it Safe??

Hey Ladies,

I want to get a tattoo of a cardinal and Cooper's name on my back to honor my little angel.  So, here is the dilemma is it safe to get a tattoo when your ttc'ing.  I am not willing to put my body in any kind of harm. I just really want to do this very badly.  I googled and most of the info came up saying it was okay. What do you ladies think?? Please don't think I am trashy for doing this, this would be my first and I am nervous as all get out!!!!

In case you were wondering why the cardinal, when we were in the hospitial with Cooper the nurses always kept his sound machine on the birds, they swore he loved it!! Well, you guys already know about his awesome mowhawk, so I don't have to explain that part. Anyway,  the day after he returned to heaven we came home and we had a cardinal in the red ( a bird with a mowhawk!!) and it was just sitting there, looking in this house!! This is  the first time we have ever had these birds in our yard. So, we set up a bird feeder and a bird bath and we have dedicated this spot of the yard for Cooper. We call it "Cooper's Corner".  That is where I go and doing my thinking and visting with my little man. So, I thought this would be a great idea for a tattoo.

Sorry to be so long winded, I just wanted to give you the scoop and get your opinions. Thanks everyone, I truly appreciate your love and support!!!

I got my Cooper Tattoo!!! I love it!!!! I will post pictures in a couple of days after it is healed!!!

I have two tattoos myself. One on my left wrist with a rose and vines on each side. Above this is my father's last name (didn't know him all my life and did not have his name). Also I have one on my right upper arm pretty close to the same design without lettering. I have not put my childrens names in anyway in tattoo form  but would like to. I just haven't found anything that has caught my eye.

I would love to see the artwork of your lil' angel when you have it done. If you go to a professional artist it will be perfectly safe.

It's back on!! I went back to the shop and told the guy exactly what I wanted. He is using my design, but it will be a little bigger then what I wanted, but that is okay!! So, I am going tomorrow!!!

Did you check the books in the shop? They have a gazillion tattoo's I'm sure to pick from. Books and Books. Maybe you can find a bird/cardinal you like and they can add his name. Take your time, you will find something you like. Don't let it get you down!!

Well ladies, that tattoo is a no go. : ( I went to bring the man my design and it said it would not work. He told me that it would have to be huge in order for Cooper's name and the Cardinal to fit together.  I am so bummed, I called around and they told me the same thing and plus I don't just want to go anywhere. So, it looks like I will have to find another tribute. I am crushed I wanted to do this so badly.

I hope Cooper will hold my hand through the whole thing!! My dh thinks I am nuts, but he I think he secertly wants one too!!!

Hi Rachael...sure...it sounds safe to me!!  Just please make sure you get it done at a reputable shop!!!  I think it's a beautiful symbol in memorium of little Cooper!!  Make sure you take a picture of it after you have done to show us!  Pam

oh I already have a small dolphin on my ankle and it really feels like a bee sting.  nothing can be worse than the pain we are going through already.. but I wanted mine somewhere I could see it.

I am getting one too..  placed on my arm(upper)  I never wear sleeveless stuff..  with an angel, I just picked it out.  and his date 10/07/08  I also had to order his urn and pick up his ashes so its been a long week..  I won't start trying again until march or april.  hopefully it won;t take long..  just keep getting conflicting info about why this all happened... wish I knew..  but only he knows..

I don't see ANY harm in it. I have one too :) DD saw it the other day and said "sticker", and we got a good laugh out of it.  I don't think it matters when you go, you'll still be scared, hee, hee.. Just research exactly which cardinal you want, a tattoo will be there forever :)

Lol, A tramp stamp??  Had never heard that term before.  Mine is on the inside of my hip (its teeny tiny) as I didn't want' it to show either...thats not a tramp stamp is it?  Hehe, that term makes me giggle....

Cooper's cardinal appears at all the right times!! I know it is my little man watching and I just think that it would be such a great tribute!!

I was not going to get a "tramp stamp", because of the epidural issue, that you were talking about and plus my shirt always goes up and the last thing I want to do is show all my first grade students my tattoo!!!


Well, I guess if I am brave enough I will look into getting one soon. I will not do it during the 2ww, it will have to be before I "o" or during AF. I really want to go this weekend but I am scared!!!!

Wow, what a beautiful idea.  I love it.  And no, you are certainly not trashy.  I have a small tattoo as well, and I love it.

Your story about the Cardinal brought tears to my eyes.  And to have a special place like that to visit with your son is just beautiful...this whole story is beautiful.

I don't think there is any danger with a tattoo when ttc.  I would think the only real danger would be in a possible infection, but if you go to a reputable place, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.  Also, don't get it on the back, over the spine or anything....I have read it can cause certain problems (rarely, but why chance it).  Other than that, I don't think its dangerous and what a fitting tribute to a beautiful little angel.
