IVF

14 years ago i had an IVF and by first attempt i got pregnant. Today my period is still like clock work and i been thinking of having another go..what are my chances at the age of 45? My problem was that i had 2 ectopic pregnancies and both tubes was taken off. so..the problem is not hormons..Should i go for it at this age?

Definitely...if you'd like another baby...go for it. ;o) We have a young lady on this forum who is 45 & pregant. Sorry P.B., I'm not sure if you went to RE or if yours is au naturale. ;o) Jaana...hope you get another BFP!! ;o)

It's so hard to conceive at 45 and then if you do get pregnant you have all the worries about chromosomal problems.  I used to think that if I ovulated and had my period every month, I would have no problems.   I was wrong.  I learned a lot and especially that the age of my eggs was a key factor.   ( I was in my 40s when I started doing this).   Most of your eggs just spoil.    The stats say that at age 44 that your chance of getting pregnant is 1.6%.     Now if you're doing IVF that can be quite costly and as you said you had no tubes, this would be your only recourse.   Here's a link...maybe it will help.

I know there are those out there that can get pregnant at 45, but they are very few and very far in between.   I have only known of ONE person on this board that is that age and got pregnant and she did it , as far as I know, on her own.     And she just had good fortune.   And i"ve been on this board  for many years.  

You're looking at paying a lot of money for IVF, so talk to your doctor and see what your doctor thinks.  Also look at the clinic stats to see how many women over the age of 45 got pregnant with their own eggs at this clinic.   Don't be suprised if your infertility doctors suggests donor eggs.  

Now I have a different spin.....you said you go pregnant IVF many years ago.....so if you have left over embryos.....disregard what I said above as that was just my spin if they had to use your current eggs.  If you have left over embryos....go for it!  I think it's so much better to have a baby in your late 30's and 40s than in your 20s.   It's like we have our ducks better lined up in a row at that age.  Much more smarter and wiser than in our 20s.  I think it will be a bit more tiring (physically) than it would have been earlier on, but if you can get through the tiredness, then the rest will be a breeze!

Also there are no embryos left. When i did my IVF they inplanted only 2 embryos. I must say that i did this private and it was not that costly at all and the treatment in it self was so easy. One month of treatment and my daughter was inplanted on valentines day 1994!!
Yes it would be easier to have a baby now than if i was 25!!

It looks like you are going to have to start from scratch!  So it might be harder.  I started trying to get pregnant at 40 and got pregnant five times.  Four times on my own and one time IUI.  My doctor didn't think it would be a bad idea for us to try IVF (as we had insurance for it) and he thought we could make a go of it.  But then I looked at the high risk of downs and thought I couldn't deal with getting pregnant again, it sticking and then the baby being sick.  We ended up opting for donor eggs and it worked the first time.  No the baby's being treated as if I was 29!  

My point being was that the infertility doc did think I had a good chance of finding the good egg.  

THey also do pregenetic dianostic testing on the eggs.  So if you do IVF they could do that before they transfer embryos.  This way you can weed out the bad ones.   That was initially our plan, before we changed our mind and used donor eggs.   I would have adopted so I didn't mind that the eggs came from a donor.  I just wanted a baby.
