Hi Ladies - Stupid question. Filling out forms for some new docs, non-ob/gyn related. Should I put a D&E down as a past surgery? It was under anesthesia and in a hospital????
Do you mean a D&C? It is more less considered an outpatient procedure. Any procedure that requires undergoing anesthesia is serious, so I don't want to undermine calling a D&C just a procedure, because certainly there are risks. I would mention it. BTW, it's not a stupid question : )
D & E and D& C are considered surgies. There is a medical procedure code that indicates where or not a procedure is lab work, x-ray, etc. and the D&C and D&E's are considered surgical procedures. In many cases you are given anesthesia. So yes it is a surgery and it should be listed when they ask you about surgies you have had done.
My doctors office and the ER always consider my d&c a surgery. It is not a stupid question at all. Most of the time I almost forgot to mention it when they ask me about any surgeries I have had.
