Is there anything I can do to change my ovulation day?

Hi Ladies

I know this may sound a bit ridiculous, but if you don't ask you never learn, so here goes - I have been told by my consultant that I am ovulating on day 20/21 which means that by this time the egg is 'old' and very unlikely to result in a pregnancy.  I have been taking B6 which did extend my luteal phase (my cycle went up to 31-34 days), but this won't make any difference if the egg is not viable in the first place.  I stopped taking B6 this month and my cycle has gone back to 28 days.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know if its even possible to alter your ovulation naturally.  I have just turned 40 and my consultant may put me on clomid, but I have to await further scans as I have a cyst on my ovary.  I have only managed to get pregnant twice in 17 years and feel that my time is running short.  I am trying to lose weight too as since I lost my boy last year I have put on 28lbs and know this isn't helping either.  Any advice will be gratefully received.

I agree with most previous comments. Definitely try Maca root, which you can buy in powder form and sprinkle on cereal. Take vitamin E for fertility and eat vitamin E rich foods. It's also advised to cut out caffeine and alcohol if you're trying to conceive.  I'm not sure your eggs are old because of late ovulation, they are old because they were formed when you were a foetus so essentially as the same age as you. I would question the 3 miscarriage thing.... I was tested immediately after a miscarriage I had at 39 and my current pregnancy is being monitored carefully. It could be dependent on the health system where you are...I'm in Ireland.

I think that you should seek alternate assistance.  This place clearly doesn't "get it"... I too am TTC I am 38. Hard very hard.  Had a DVT during my first pregnancy and now TTC for #2 is been well, stressful to say the least!  You shouldn't feel like a bother to these people that you are paying to help you in your time of need... I would seek out a new doctor to assist you in this journey... Sometimes finding one that really cares, well is all it takes... If you are stressed over not getting answers-  clearly the stress does not help you getting pregnant...

Best wishes to you!  <3 Lots of love and bby dust your way!

Thanks for all the advice ladies.  On my last appointment my consultant seemed pretty adamant about the fact that my egg releasing after cd19 was not a good thing.  I had managed to extend my luteal phase to 12-14 days after cd19 but no bfp sadly.  I will look up vitex etc.

I was supposed to see my consultant today, but he was ill so saw someone else and she wasn't at all helpful.  Got the distinct feeling that I was being fobbed off.  Basically was told that I would not be put on clomid or anything else as I have a cyst on my right ovary measuring 3cm x 3cm. Tried to find out whether they plan to remove it, but she just kept saying I'd have to see my own consultant so what was the whole point of me going to this appointment.  At the end I had bloods for yet another test.

I tried to get her to help me understand what is going on with my fertility as I have been pregnant twice in 17 years, but bled a lot through both and had to have dc's.  She told me that that aspect wouldn't be looked into as they only look when there are 3 or more miscarrages.  I am so annoyed and frustrated that I seem to be getting no answers and was then informed that my next appointment would be in oct/nov which was unacceptable so I have managed (after kicking up a stink) to get an appointment for 22 sept.

Why when this is a difficult time anyway, do I have to feel like I have to fight and argue just to get information and help..... I'm so missing my boy and really need to know if there is a chance of me getting pregnant again as I don't want to live under any false hope.  So sorry for going on a bit I am just so fed up and sad right now.

femara, combined with HGC shot can bring forward the ovulation and make sure it is triggered at the optimal time.

I'm on my first cycle of femara.  it has none of the side effects I experienced with Clomid, and it apparently doesn't affect cervical mucous or endometrial thickness.  Hoping I get to do IUI Wed or thurs this week.

I think you need an aggressive RE at this stage of trying and your age.

It should still be possible to have a healthy pregnancy and baby, but need to work on it.

Macaroot and vitex ( I take the liquid form) are really good for regulating ovulation.   Read about them all over the web, and you can order them from many websites and are not that expensive.  If you need a website suggestion, let me know.

I am not certain that ovulating at day 20 or 21 means the egg is too old and therefore not viable.  Have you checked this piece of information with a reproductive endocrinologist?  It seems to me that the body ovulates when the egg is ripe, not when it is too old.  The only difficulty I had ever heard with a day-20 ovulation is if the luteal phase is too short for the embryo to implant, but it doesn't sound like that is what is happening in your case, especially after the B6.

As far as I know there is no way to speed up ovulation.  Clomid can delay it, but I have never heard of anything to shorten the time.  Did your Dr. have any advice for you?  Sorry, wish I could be of more help.
