Yeah, you should make sure it's not just a cold first. I did have all of your symptoms with my sinus infection, which is bacterial though.
How are you feeling today?
Penicillin will not help a cold virus, that is for bacteria infections. Call your ob/gyn and ask for their recommendations. But, usually only rest, drinking lots of warm fluids, and some mild over the counter medications will help. I think Sudafed and Robittusin DM are okay, but check with your doctor first.
I would make sure to get a perscription from your doc, knowing you are preg vs. using an existing bottle. Who knows if the dosage is different, etc.
My doc just gave me a perscription for penicillin for a sinus infection so I think it's safe. I'm trying not to take it. She also suggested this thing called a Neti Pot, which works really well. I'm not sure if you saw my post a few day ago, but basically it's a little tea-pot thing that you fill with water and sea salt, pour in one nostril with your head tilted, and it comes out the other. It does wonders for congestion although I have to admit my sore throat came back tonight. I might take penicillin yet...
If you sore throat and congestion is viral, taking penicillin won't do you any good anyway. I wouldn't take anything your dr didn't give you to take while you are pg.
Tylenol cold is safe to take.
