My iron also was very low when I got my results back from thw test at 30 weeks. I have to take the same dosage of iron but twice daily. I make sure I take lots of green leafy vegetables like kale salad, I juice using kale and beets and I drink lots of water as well. No problem using the bathroom.

On my second baby and anaemic both times....Take medication as prescribed but drink tons of water before and after...Also eat a lot of dark green veggies and fruits....Iron is known to cause constipation and back up but I found doing the extra healthy things as backup helps....I have never been constipated while taking iron....trust me it works....The baby needs the iron at all stages...and so do u

I was diagnosed with anemia, too. They told me it is very common in pregnancy. I began taking an OTC iron supplement, 65 mg. I was doing okay with it until last week. It caused me to not have a bm for a couple days & I vomitted because my body couldn't digest anything else.
Since this happened, I have started taking the supplement every other day, & drinking a short glass of prune juice on the days in between. My OB suggested eating spinach, but ironically, any time I ate it earlier in my pregnancy, it had the opposite effect on me.
I have heard that bowel blockage can cause premature labor, I'm not sure if this is exactly true but I don't want to chance it.
Good luck & hope everything goes well with your pregnancy!
