Low progesterone & High HCG levels

by starshowr, Jun 09, 2009 01:44PM
Just curious if anyone has experenced a senario similar this and what the outcome was.

Jun 7th - 3 positve HPT's. Blood test confirmed. Progesterone 1.2 and HCG 3138.
Jun 8th - Ultrasound saw sac. Progesterone 6.29 and HCG 3567

The RE's office is concerned there may not be anything in the sac or that we may miscarry. Initially they were concerned it could be an etopic pregnancy, but that has been ruled out on the ultrasound Jun 8th when we saw the sac.

June 8th it 4 weeks 3 days since the start of my last cycle.

What I'm wonder is if anyone has had a successful pregnancy that started out like this? Is it possible? Praying that there is still hope!

I started taking them on Sunday right after the blood confirmation results. Prometrium 2 times per day.

most of us started taking them right after O... sometimes by the time you get a +hpt it could be too late... you should ask your RE about this if you need to...

Are you taking another hcg test soon?  what is the next step?

good luck

It's kind of a crazy story....

We have done 2 rounds of IUI both BFN, so we decided to take a month off to decide what we wanted to do next another IUI, IVF or adotpion. With our second IUI cycle we did do prometrium, but it was still negative.

Wouldn't it figure the month we take off (no fertility anything)  we get pregnant on our own. We weren't even timing our baby dancing....it's just crazy!! And now we may not have a viable pregnancy! I'm still praying that God can save the baby if there is one in the sac. I go back on the 17th to have my progesterone and HCG levels checked again and to have an ultrasound at that point I will be close to 6 weeks.

I'm trying to prepare myself as much as I can that this may not take. I haven't had any spotting, cramps, pain, or bleeding. I've never been pregnant before so I'm not really even sure what I should be experiencing, I know each pregnancy is different from what I have heard people say.  I have  butterfly's in my tummy every so often and I want to have hope that this can still be turned around. If there is just one person this has happened to and still come out with a successful pregnancy that would give me something to hold onto.

well I didn't start progesterone with my last one until after BFP because I wasn't trying either.

What have you been doing as far as fertility?

I did clomid/iui 3 cycles with  my second but it thinned my lining so I went to injectables and got pg the second cycle..

I was told with that one that my numbers didn't look good and that it was "unlikely that this pg will result in a baby"  She is now 6.  I didn't know enough about the numbers stuff back then so I didn't even ask... but there are a lot of people who have beaten the odds..

I know of a woman that was 42 did IVF three times and then gave up... she then got pg all on her own not even trying and had her first baby...

I wish you luck, when My numbers were bad, I took 4 days off work, laid in bed an prayed for my little bean to hold on... she did

Ok i am no expert, but I think at 4 or 5 weeks all you would see is a sac, and your hgc levels are going up, I have had low progesterone my entire time and I am 28 weeks, now is not the time to give up, I think that your numbers are ok and they did see the sack, so hang in there talk to that little bean and tell it to GROW! I will send lots of prayers and baby dust your way

Once your HCG levels are over 1000 (some say 1500), they can usually see something.  I know that low progesterone is always a bit of a concern.  I am confused about them not showing up on progesterone tests though.  They don't bother testing my progesterone because I take 3 X100mg's/day supplement, so I was told the test would be inaccurate.  Now, although low progesterone is a concern, I am not sure if it means necessarily a negative outcome.  Your HCG levels are rising nicely.  Hang in there, and I would be asking for an early ultrasound for sure.  Good luck.

Thank you ladies!

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers too! I sure hope this little one hangs in there and there is something in the sac.

melimeli - for both of our IUI cycles we did injectables, with a double IUI. One done at 18 hours and another at 36 hours past ov.

I just thought I'd mention this - my re's office tested me every week for twelve weeks for progesterone levels - they like to see the number be at least 20+ so I would think some kind of progesterone supplement is in order for numbers as low as this.
