Miscarriage, still cramping after 3 days

by taterbaby, Nov 23, 2007 10:25AM
Hi, I had a miscarriage on wednesday, at least thats when I think that most of it ocurred. Today is Friday and I am still cramping quite a lot. I was trying to do this without going to the hospital, my doctor was guiding me through it by phone calls monitoring my bleeding but then since the holidays (my dr office is closed also today and through the weekend) I have no one to ask if everything is ok. I would hate to rush to the ER for no reason but could the continued cramping be a sign that my cervix is not closing up? I am still bleeding quite a bit but not an alarming amount. Has anyone else tried to MC at home and not gone to the hospital. Would love to hear anyones input.

I am so sorry for your loss, i also had m/c on tuesday night and i only bled on that night, i passed everything out... then on the next day i was not bleeding anymore..just spotting, my RE did an u/s and told us they were gone (twins).. I was so devastated....

You should call your doc..even they are closed they shoud have an on call doc... just to ease your mind.. how far along you were?

God bless you... and take care..

I've had a miscarriage at home too. I had been spotting for a couple of days before, but only had cramping for a about a day when I passed the tissue. Then it stopped (I kept bleeding, though, for several more days). I'm not sure, but I think the reason you're still cramping is because you might not have passed all the tissue yet. My doctor told me that the cramps normally subsides after all the tissue is gone.

If your cramps are really bad, or you bleed to the point where you have to change pads every hour, I think it would be a good idea to go to the ER. But like babyadrian said, you could try and call your doctor first to see if there's an on-call doctor available.

I am sooooo sorry about your loss. It's truly devastating to go through something like this. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  I too had a miscarriage on Wednesday and am continuing to bleed and have occasional cramping.  I do notice that if I cramp I usually pass a clot.  From everything I have read it's normal to bleed for up to 6 weeks (I hope that's not the case).  I don't know how you feel, but I feel I can't even begin to get past the emotional part of this while I still have to be physically reminded that I miscarried.  It seems very unfair for women to have to go through this.  Take care and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi I am also so very sorry for your loss.  I too just got confirmation that I miscarried.  It was confirmed Wednesday but happened a couple weeks before.  I started heavy bleeding and severe cramping on Thursday was in the ER and they said I am passing everything myself so went home still in severe pain and continue with the heavy heavy bleeding Thursday and huge clots (anywhere from the size of a Loonie to the size of my hand).  Then Friday the cramping continue, it was like having contractions...so Saturday morning I went to the walk in and they gave me Anaprox which helps with cramps.  I am still bleeding (about a pad every 2 hours) and if I don;t take the pills I feel the cramps and its now 5 days...they told me this can last about 2 weeks however I am also going to be doing weekly bloodwork to check my beta (bcg) levels, if they are not down to 0 by the end of next week they will have to consider a D and C as tissue should not be in there a long period of time.  Be sure that your Dr. is checking your levels.  I wish everyone the best and God Bless as we too hope to have another beautiful healthy child to add to our family.

I've been in the same situation, miscarried 3 weeks ago. I had 3 days of spotting and on the 4th day the cramping started followed by 4 days of enormous bleeding. My docor told me the whole proces can take 2 weeks....Take care and hope you'll be ok soon!
