NT/First Trimester Screening Results!

Just wanted to update you all since I had posted about my test before. I got the full results back today. They said the tests were "negative", and that my risk for Down Syndrome is 1:490. Apparently the cutoff for "negative" versus "positive" is 1:220. My risk for Trisomy 18 is 1:2000. The cutoff for that is 1:100. So, the MD said the numbers look good! I was pretty set on getting the amnio, and it's scheduled for Feb 16th. Now I'm not sure if I should go ahead so I have a definate yes or no, rather than just the risk calculation. Anyway...I'm quite relieved and wanted to share!

So glad to hear your numbers are so great!!!  Please let me know what you decide in terms of the amnio.  I have often wondered if I would change my mind about it if I had really strong numbers like yours.  I am curious.  Good luck Tricia, you know I wish you the absolute best!!!!!

That's kind of what my DH and I were discussing today. The risk of M/C with the amnio is higher than the risk of having a baby with DS. So, now what? I mean, when the chances of a miscarriage are greater than the chances of having a disabled child...well, I'm leaning more toward *not having the amnio. But I have about ten days to decide. I'm going to keep pondering it. :-)

Congrats.  I think you're pretty safe without the amnio, based on those results.  The amnio is just so scary.  I don't plan to have one unless the results come back borderline or risky, indicating that i need further testing.
