No heartbeat at 6 weeks 1 day

Hi ladies, I'm hoping that some of you have had a similar situation and can give me some advice or some words of wisdom that will help me get through the next 10 days.

I am currenly 6 weeks, 1 day pregnant - or 4 weeks, 1 day PIUI.  I have experienced a little bit of spotting and some cramping so my RE wanted me to come in to see what was going on.  Today at my US we were able to see a gestational sac and a yolk sac and he said they both looked good and that the pregnancy had attached to a good place in the uterus.  However he wasnt able to see a heartbeat.  He said that the embryo was very small and he couldnt see a heartbeat and that i would have to come back in 10 days.  This has me EXTREMELY worried - I know that some people are able to see heartbeats this early - should the embryo be very small at this point?i know i didnt actually ovulate until later in the evening on the day of my IUI, so maybe that means I'm a teeny bit behind schedule.  There is no chance that my timing is way off, because i dont even think that we bd'd that entire month!  LOL! (how sad is that?)

He didnt suggest more blood work or anything further testing.  He said that there was no evidence that I had been bleeding and that i shouldnt worry about the spotting or the cramping.  He just told me to think positive and come back in 10 days.

I thought that this visit would give me some answers one way or the other - instead, i am no further ahead, and actually more worried now!

Have any of you been in similar situations? I would love some advice!

Thank you ever so much!

G

yay, sometimes i think all the testing etc... just makes us nervous wrecks.  when my mom was pregnant with me 40 years ago, you found out you were pregnant eventually and you didn't know what you were having or what potential health probs it might have...... the whole thing was a surprise.

I'm so glad it turned out well for you and thanks for following up.  I've been looking up this topic and so many of the posters never said what happened.  I have my 2nd ultrasound on Friday to see if the heartbeat has increased (they said it was slow at 82) and I will post my info for others to look up.  I think I'm supposed to be 7wks3days today.  When did you have your ultrasound?  Sounds like we're almost the same at how far along we are.  Hope we have sticky beans!

Just thought I would follow up on this in case someone searches this topic in the future.

When i went for my 2nd US at 7wks4days, there was a gestational sac, a yolk sac, and a little bean with a heartbeat!  Turns out that conception probably took place 2 days after the IUI as the bean actually measured 7wks2 days.

So far all is well, and there NOT being a hb at 6 weeks didnt indicate anything at all.  It was just too early!

I think you're way to early.  My girlfriend didn't see a heartbeat until 9 weeks and they did a sonogram at 6, 7 & 8 weeks.  She kept telling her doctor she wanted to wait and he said okay but he didn't have much hope for her at all, when back at 9 weeks and she saw a heartbeat.  I bet after 10 more days you will see that heartbeat went you go back.  Have faith and stay strong.

My gynecologist never schedule ultrasounds before 8-9 weeks. But your doctor could do a 48 hours hcg, that would give you some answers faster.
Good luck!

Hi ,

Keep positive - at the hospital where I go to - they don't make appointments til after 8 weeks.  As your doctor said - its too small to see the heartbeat but there IS a gestational and yolk sac.  I had read too that other people found a heartbeat after not seeing one at 6 weeks so don't despair.  Keep hoping for the best and good luck to you. May you have a happy ending .

I just went back and found my old posts from the pregnancy and actually I went in at 6w 4 days and the heartbeat was low 90's but I remember also getting one at 81.  I also remember the doctor refusing to do an ultrasound any earlier than 6w 4 day as he said it was very likely to not see a hb yet!!!

Hi there...When I went in at 6w 3 days the heartbeat was only 81 and the Dr. told me that there was only a 40% chance of the preg continuing.  I almost stopped taking the progesterone and heparin but the nurse made me promise not to stop.  I went back a few days later and it was still only 108 and he still didn't give me the greatest odds....Well she just turned 5 months old and she's perfect in every way :-)  6w 1 day is still early!  Keep positive! ;-)

i have also heard that sometimes you may not hear a heartbeat until the fetal pole has reached 4mm.

Good luck, hope you see a strong heart beat on your next U/S

i was spooting with this pregnancy from week 4 but at week 6 it got heavier so i went at 6 weeks to do an ultrasound, my gestational sac was measuring 6 weeks 5 days, there was a yolk sac but no fetal pole or heart beat detected.

i whent back at 8 weeks and i saw my girl moving around and we saw and heard the heartbeat.

I was were you are at 3 times. My outcome was not a happy one; however I read other ladies post in your similar situation and when the go back they find the heartbeat. I pray that this is what happens for you.

It is easier said than done, but try to relax.
