No period since giving birth

by Dawn64, Mar 19, 2009 07:55PM
Hi Ladies:  I was wondering when you had your first normal period after giving birth.  My daughter was born Dec. 29th and still no AF!  I'm scared to take a pregnancy test ( I don't have any preg symptoms).  I've always had a messed up cycle usually every 35 days - I dont know what to think, am I panicking too soon??

Thanks for your input

are you breast feeding your baby? Alot of women who breast feed dont have periods. I have had six children and I breast feed all of them and didnt have a real period until they werent eating as much usually around two or three months. And then my period was very light. But to be on the safe side I would talk to your Dr about it. If your not breast feeding then I would defentely take a test and call your Dr. Everyone is different, good luck and congrats on your baby! I had a tubal reversal and Im going to start trying in May. I just hope one day I can say I just had a baby....susan

Are you BFing?? Sometime it could take months to get your period again if your BFing or could happen as early as 4 weeks. Now I never BF any of mine (tried with the 2nd) and with my last son I got my period close to 7 weeks after delievry. But normaly (I think) most woman get their "friend" anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months after deleivey. I dont think I would freak out just yet unless you have been having unprotected sex.

Hi Dawn,
I breastfed both my sons for a yr and didn't get a period till they were weaned.I lost my last baby at 8 mos on Nov 28th. I've had two short cycles since then that were three days long and pretty light. This third one is heavier and is lasting longer, but it's nowhere near as heavy as the ones before the pregnancy.
Remember you can still get PG even if you're not having your periods.

I'm with the others...breastfeeding will do it. After the initial postpartum bleeding was over, I didn't have a period for a year. But, if you're not exclusively breastfeeding, you should have had a period by now. I think I'd go ahead and take a test...better to know than not!

Dawn - I didn't breastfeed and didn't get my period until 7 months after Noah was born.  I think besides breastfeeding, your hormones take lots of time to get back in the sync of things.  Take a HPT so you'll feel better & if you don't get your cycle within the next couple months, I would call your dr to let him/her know the situaiton.

Ladies:  thank you for all your feed back - however I did forget to mention I am strictly bottle feeding no breast at all.  I think I will take a HPT this weekend if AF still does not show.

Have a great weekend all
