Hi, i had the mirera coil removed in April and have had two regular periods since. I am 45 and trying for a baby with my new partner whom is 37 years. What are the chances of me conceiving at my age.

Hello,  I am 40 and had my mirena removed in January. It took a full three months for us to conceive.  I had it in for 3.5 years and did not have a period the whole time on it.  My period started within days of removal.  I am now 15 weeks pregnant.

plumber43 - I also had my tubes tied. 12 years later I married and had them reversed in June of 2004, we were pregnant by the end of August and my daughter is now 5.

More woman are having babies in their 40's and I have not been treated any differently by my OB due to my age.

I don't usually respond to questions on the internet. However, I am 45, my husband is 47.  I had six children when I met him in 2001 and  we got married in 2007.  I knew I wanted a baby with him but the desire really came on strong after we got married.  I had an IUD, which I had to remove because of bleeding and then went on the pill.  It wasn't until last year that I decided that it was NOW OR NEVER!  I tried ovulation tests every month, nothing.  Every month I was disappointed, when  I tried to talk to family and friends (not everybody), I got "why would you want to go through that at your age, you will be old when the child is 18,  aren't you concerned about birth defects?"  My family and I went on vacation the end of June, which is my ovulation time and my husband and I got some alone time.  The last week my breast felt different, temperature was elevated, bloating and constipated.  Took a preg test this am, POSITIVE!  excited and scared, don't give up.  Baby dust to all!

I had a beautiful and bright son at 43, one month before my 44 birthday--he is  now almost 4 and was pregnant again 45-46 but didn't carry full term. My doctor says I am still fertile. BEST of luck. You are young actually.

I got pregnant just before my 41st birthday, naturally. It did end in miscarriage but my doctor told me not to worry, if you can get pregnant once, it can happen again. There are alot of us who have gotten pregnant over 40 so don't give up hope! Good luck to you.

I just have a healthy baby boy in January just before my 41st birthday. I am now trying for no. 2.   While it is true that fertility begins to decline at 35, there are lots of women in their 40's conceiving naturally and having babies into their 40's now.  If after a few months of trying you have not yet been successful, it's not a bad idea to see an RE.  I agree with many of the other comments..yes there are a few more risks, but it's well worth it, at least in my opinion.  Good luck to you and I hope to be reading about your BFP soon!

Thank you for your story, so nice to hear that mothers over 40 are not being wrote off. I am staying away from the statistics as it just demoralises me. Hope everything goes well for you and your husband. x

Stick with the positive and stay away from statistics on the internet. As far as successful pregnancies go for "older" woman, the risks are higher, but not as high as they say. They're just talking in comparison to younger women. Your chances for success is still GREAT!

Hi.Just to let you know that there is hope for us over 40 years to concieve.
I'm 45 yrs and nearly 32 weeks pregnant with baby no.4 for me.This is my husbands first baby.
It all hasn't been a bed of roses,as last year I had 2 miscarriages but we kept on trying and didn't give up hope.
I have big age gabs between my other children,26,22,15 yrs and 3 granddaughters.
I did have an anmio to see that everything was ok due to my age which results were just fine.
I have had wonderful support from so many people.
I have found this pregnancy to be very tiring and I'm no spring chicken anymore so have had to give up work sooner than expected,so I'm relaxing and resting as much as possible now.
Good luck to you and I'll send you mountains of baby dust.
All the best Erina

Thank you for sharing this, sorry about the miscarriages and i really hope it is third time lucky for you and your partner. Worried about my age and having the mirena coil removed in April. Thanks for giving me hope that there is life after your 30, all pregnancy sites seem to write women off after 40!!!

I am 44 and have gotten pregnant  3 times in 7 months with my 35- year old boyfriend. (I am now 7 weeks pregnant. All three times I have conceived naturally. Quite possibly, the last two miscarriages could have been because of  a coagulation problem and not necessarily a bad egg. I am taking baby aspirin and Heparin this time to control the problem. Good luck!
