Hi all, I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow and have been experiencing pregnancy insomniaDepression and insomnia Insomnia concerns Primary insomnia Sleeping difficulty a couple of times a week. I wake up in the middle of the night (anytime between 1-4am) and find it difficult to fall back asleep again. Sometimes it can take almost 2 hours before I finally doze off again.
Is anyone else experiencing this and if so, have you found any helpful remedies? Thanks.
Oh yeah, I have had this since about the second trimester too. I also wake up between 1am-4am and then cannot fall back asleep until 6am or so. Sometimes I do laundry, sometimes I do nothing, sometimes I just want to bawl. I am not sure what you can do for it - I have tried tiring myself out, stopping all caffeineCaffeine Caffeine anhydrous Caffeine citrate Caffeine-acetaminophen Caffeine-ergotamine very early in the day, exercising, sleeping in a different room, etc. Nothing seem to cure it (although it doesn't happen every night but does come and go in spurts). I am pretty sure it is hormone related - my sister experienced the same thing. If you find something that works let me know!!!!!

I'm so glad you posted this! I've been so tired throughout this 1st trimester, but then if I wake up between 1 - 4 a.m., I can't go back to sleep for about 2 hours. Someone needs to tell my body I don't need to get prepared for a lack of sleep! I have a 1 1/2 year old who still doesn't sleep through the night every night!
Thanks everyone. It's reassuring that others are going through this too, even though our bodies should be stockpiling sleep right now, not preparing us already for those 2am feedings. Third trimester we will all be getting up to use the bathroom a couple times a night anyway, the pregnancy insomniaDepression and insomnia Insomnia concerns Primary insomnia Sleeping difficulty isn't really necessary too, is it? If anyone finds some good remedies, looks like there are several of us who would love to hear what helps! (14w1d)
I drink celestial seasonings sleepytime tea before bed. Talk to you doctor to make sure he doesn't have a problem with it, but I have read that the commercial teas are ok.
Thanks montie, that SleepyTime tea is great. I would drink at bedtime before becoming pregnant but wasn't sure if brewed tea was okay during pregnancy. Someone suggested a glass of warm milkBreast milk Breast milk jaundice Lactose intolerance Nipple discharge - abnormal to help promote sleep. One eveningEvening primrose Evening primrose oil I tried some french vanilla hot cocoa with warm milk and that sure helped make bedtime warm and cozy. Although, drinking something right before bed almost guarantees a bathroom break in the middle of the night.
When I can't sleep, I usually eat something and that helps. Sorry about your insomnia.. In my regular life, I often could not sleep but since becoming pg, I sleep better than every.
I went through the same phase during my pregnancy just it never led up. Everynight between 2-5 am I would awaken suddenly, than when the baby started to move lot's. He would wake me up and keep me between 2-5am. I never knew what it was to sleep between this time until he was 6 weeks old. Maybe get used to taking naps during day to catch up on your sleep. I know I didn't and I should have. Nomatter what I tried nothing changed this schedule, so maybe be prepared for it not to change.
