Pregnancy and dog birth

by Natasja, Oct 12, 2009 01:23PM
I am 32 weeks pregnant and our Labrador is about to give birth to puppies.  I would like to know if there are any risks associated to me assisting with the birth of the puppies whilst I am pregnant.

I'm not being smart...but, how do you plan to assist with the birth of puppies?  I guess, wear some gloves?

Gosh, this is a first for me.  I wouldn't think so...but I have never been involved in an animal's birth.  Good luck though!

Thanks all.  My husband had to leave today for a 10 day business trip and the Vet seems to think the puppies will arrive in the next couple of days.  Hoping they wait for 10 days :)    I bought latex disposable gloves.  According to the Vet one needs to free the puppies from the sack that they are being born in and clean their mouths with a towel to ensure that they can breathe.

I was just concerned that there might be something that could affect me. I guess I will have to call my gynea and check with him.
