Prenatal Screening

I had a serum integrated prescreen screening test (blood test) at about 12 weeks, a nuchal translucency screening test at 12.5 weeks and will have another prenatal screening test (b/w) at about 15 weeks. The lab will combine the results of all three test to determine my risk. I will get the results about 10 days after the last blood test. My question is I just turned 39, wont my risk come back high based on maternal age alone, regardless of how the b/w and nuchal turn out? Shouldn't I be prepared for a "high risk" number? Btw, my nuchal measurement was good, 1.5 mm. Was anyone 39, 40, 41 given a low risk number based on prescreen testing?

im not 39, 40 or 41 but my NT results were 1.3 at 12 weeks and i had the same bloodwork done...my doc didnt tell me the exact results he just said that my results are as close to a 0% chance as you can get...everything looked great....that is also coming from a high risk ob so i trust them

my opinion is that your high risk number will not be associated with age...you may have a higher chance because of your age but that doesnt mean for sure you are going to be high risk....there are plenty of women above 39 that have healthy babies

I think for purposes of the ratio - when you are over 35 the ratios get skewed.  I am 33 and I came back with a 1/78 chance for trisomy 18 - I did not go further than another level 2 us because there were no physical markers for it.  I had the integrated screening as well - my first numbers were good - and the fold was great... the second set - my ration for DS and Nural Tube were good - just bad for the other one.... I realized during that testing that I would be happy with any baby - Trisomy 18 is fatal - so termination for me was not an option... if I have another baby - I will not be getting the testing done.. too many false positives and way to scary.... Good Luck - your dr will give you the break down on what your results are - and what was added to it for your age....

I am 42 my numbers were 1:16000. I had the anatomy ultrasound done yesterday and everything looks great. This is as far as I will go with the test. My ob is really happy with the results. I think that it is time to start enjoying the pregnancy and start shopping for my little girl.
