Prometrium anyone?

Hello,
Have any of you taken progesterone supplements while pregnant?  As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me.  I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form.  I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day.

I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it.  I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels.  Please, please tell me I'm being silly.

Thank you for all of your responses.  I started taking the capsules today and so far no symptoms..

My Dr. wanted me to start as soon as I ovulated. I won't know if I'm pregnant until I go in for my first beta test on July 19 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I took progesterone (same as prometrium) in oil shots (IVF) - not fun but definitely worth it - until 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Miranda, are you pregnant?  did I miss the big announcement?

Oh, OK! I was taking 200 mg twice a day, so I guess it's not that big of a difference (400 mg vs. your 600 mg). Plus I was also on a vaginal gel, since I was doing IVF.

Best of luck with everything. Hopefully this will turn out to be a healthy, full-term pregnancy for you!

I took 1 vaginally a day. It wasn't so bad if you did it at night when you went to bed.  My dr. said he wasn't sure it would help at all but it sure wouldn't hurt!

Udbe - I'm sorry for your loss. I've had several as well and I don't think it was from a progesterone deficiency - my regular obgyn tested me on Day 21 and my levels were fine.  My ER prescribes progesterone to everyone who comes through his door at the fertility clinic as a precaution.  I've just decided to go along with it.  Everyone tells me that it won't "hurt".

Heather  - I'll be taking 100mg in each capsule = 800 mg per day.  I know the capsule form is higher than the suppositories.

Oral prometrium made me super dizzy...so just be aware if you have to take it before driving to work or something. If you have the same reaction, you might want to plan it so you won't have to take it when you have to drive (for me, the dizziness would start about an hour after taking the pill). As for your hormone levels, it really shouldn't be a problem to use a supplement, and it could potentially help sustain a pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry about it messing with your hormones. Two pills three times a day does sound like a lot, though. What dosage are the capsules?

I took them when I was pregnant Nov 08 since my levels were so low.  I only had to take one tablet 3x's a day though.  It brought my progesterone up a lot and the only side effects I had was the headaches.   My ended in m/c but not because of the prometrium it was because everything stopped developing probably bad egg.   Good luck and I have read lots of women on here that are taking it w/out any problems.
