Saw my OB today..

by adgal, Sep 15, 2008 03:50PM
Had my appoinment today with my OB.  He ordered a bunch of bloodwork (FSH, etc.) and said that my cycle is probably just out of kilter due to a minor "hormonal" imbalance from all the losses in such a short time frame.  He isn't overly concerned, so thats good news.  He also started me on a drug called clomiphene citrate (I guess its just clomide under a different name).  50mg a day to start, for 5 days.  Is that a normal dosage?  Anyway, I am seeing another OB in Calgary as soon as we get there (about a week and a half), and I guess she can set me up with an RE.  The closest one to me now is about 3 hours away, but Calgary is a much bigger city so it should be easier.  Lol, I am hoping the chlomide helps me have twins...

Yes, 50 mg of clomid is the lowest dosage.  It will help with the quality of your eggs and may prolong your cycle a little as well.

Hello!

I took 50 mg of clomid with my last child, and actually got pregnant with twins on round #2. :)

I'm not familiar with clomid, but it sounds like everyone here agrees that it's the right dosage and you should be well on your way~~~~ keep us posted!!  Pam

Amanda,

That is the same dosage that my RE put me on, but he started me on cycle day 3.  I only had to take mine one month and I concieved the first month I was on it.  I wish you the best of luck.  Hang in there it will happen for you real soon, I have said extra extra prayers for you.

Hugs
Debbie

The primary reason for the chlomide was to get my cycle back to somewhat normal.  But its bonus time if it gets me a BFP again sooner. And if it helps me get a healthier egg (or two God willing), that would be the absolute icing on the cake for us.  I sure hope it works!!  Thanks for all the input ladies, I am excited and hopeful again!

At 50 mg you will probably get just one egg but I hope it's the golden one  :)

Hi.
I just found out yesterday that I''ll be having my 3rd miscarriage.  No symptoms of a miscarriage yet...I'm guessing my body has not recognize that it's not a viable pregnancy.  In any case, I'm once again desperately searching for answers and trying to find hope that perhaps I can shift the odds in my favor.  Feeling like I do now, I'm just not sure if I want to go on trying, but on the other hand, there may be hope with Clomid?  I don't know...

My question to you ladies is how do you find the strength to go on trying after 2 or 3 or 4 m/cs?   And did you go through some testings before your doc offered Clomid to you?  What can Clomid offer you?  I'm 36.  I had 1 m/c, 1 molar pregnancy, and this one I think it's a blighted ovum.  Do you think Clomid would offer me some favorable chance next time around?

Thanks for your help.

First off, I'm really sorry for your loss.  Don't give up it will happen for you as well.  I know it's hard but with the help of an RE I believe it will happen for you, Amanda and anyone else having these issues.  It's hard but if you believe that it will happen, then it will.

I found my strength through the wonderful RE doctor that I had.  He told me that woman that are in my shoes that still don't have children is because they gave up.  He told me that I just wasn't getting a mature healthy egg. Plus I have been in Martial Arts for over 15 years and I have learned that "Nothing is Impossible to the Willing Mind" and I have followed that motto throughout my life.  I was not going to give up and let this beat me.

And I believe in my heart that I did get a healthy egg this time and know in my heart that my son is going to be just fine when he is brought into this world.

If you don't have an RE, find a good one in your area and do some research on that doctor as well.  I was given the complete inferility work-up and nothing was wrong with my husband or I, that it just came down to bad luck.  I was told by my RE that Clomid gave you more eggs, but I also heard from other women that Clomid gives you healthly eggs (not sure how true that is) but my doctor put me on Clomid (50mg) for 5 days starting on cycle day 3 (a lot of other woman start on cycle day 5).  And sure enough I got pregnant the very first time.  Now, because I had so many miscarriage and 2 D&C's I would suggest to my doctor what I wanted done.  I told him I want an HSG test done on my utherus before I started on the Clomid and he did and everything looked fine.  He was a wonderful doctor.  If I didn't concieve on Clomid then we were planning to do IUI the following month, but it worked for us.  All things happen for a reason.

Good luck to you and it will happen soon.  If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me anything.

Hugs XXX
Debbie
