Scary - need opinions

by LisaRG, Jun 30, 2008 02:53PM
Hi Ladies,
Well I am on day 6 of my IVF cycle and the RE office calls and tells me I need a biopsy for endometrial cancer because my pap from May came back showing excess tissue.
I cant have the biopsy without stopping the IVF cycle.
They said that chances are its just left over  tissue being shed from my AF which started 6 days before Pap.  My AF is usually done in 4 days.
If the IVF is not successful then I can have the biopsy next month.  If the IVF is successful, then I have to wait 9 months.
I do not want to stop my cycle - I am 44.
They say that my chances of having cancer are less than my chances of getting pregnant.
Has this happened to anyone else?

wow, no one can tell you how to handle this but you.  i did have an endometrial biopsy before, not during fertility treatments, but during diagnosis.  my dr. was fine with me ttc as long as biopsy was done before day 10.  i don't know if that is different due to ivf.  also, have you thought about what you will do if the results are not good?  my biopsy showed possible pre-cancerous cells, and i was told to have a d&c within the next few weeks to check for cancer cells, which i did.  thankfully, i was clear.  but if your biopsy comes out positive, then you will sched. a d&c for the next month, then if cancer is shown, a hyst.
if it were me, i would proceed with this cycle, but that is me, and i am not telling you what to do.  only b/c chances are low, i know i would still want this possibly last try and b/c of age.  please update, and keeping fingers crossed, that, like me, this road leads nowhere.
