Sex after Miscarriage

I am a 40 yr old female and on Aug. 4th I had a miscarriage. I past four large masses on Aug. 8th and my OB says that was what was suppose to happen and that I should be fine know. I am sill bleeding heavy but decreasing and my husband and I on the 11th and today the 15th had sexual intercourse. It wasn't painful, and I past two small clots the size of a nickel and a dime this morning afterwords. we are each others only partners, we were virgins when we married twenty years ago. Can I get an infection from sexual intercourse, and can we get pregnant again this soon? My OB says after my passing the larger masses, they were PAINFUL, and no other complications, I woul'nt need a D&C. I asking this online because i'm embarressed to ask her and admit we coul'nt wait to  be with each other to express our love.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I am 40 and had my 2nd m/c this past March.  I had a D&C and after my 10-day check-up my OB said sex was fine.  I had a "natural" m/c 5 years ago, but I don't recall how long my OB said to wait or if he even said at all.  We chose to use condoms for the first cycle b/c we felt like it was better to wait at least 1 cycle before TTC again (among other reasons).  We are now pg again and hoping and praying everything goes well this time.  Best wishes.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am not sure how long you need to wait after a natural loss, but after my D&C's, I was told to wait about 10 days.  I am sure that has more to do with the fact that it was a surgical procedure.  I am sure you will be fine, but you should always be watching for signs of infection.  They are a really foul smelling discharge, fever, and abdominal pain.  And yes, you can get pregnant again soon after a m/c.  Many women on this forum have gotten pregnant right after a loss, before their next menstrual cycle.  Don't worry to much if you do, it doesn't increase your chances for another miscarriage. Some even believe you are more fertile after a loss.

Take care, and I wish you well.

Hi!  Sorry to hear that you miscarried.  To answer your questions, can you get an infection from intercourse, yes, but are you asking because you passed the clots, or do you have other symptoms, ie burning, itching, discharge etc?  And second, what exactly are you embarrassed to ask your OB, if you can get an infection, or if it's ok to have sex now?  Sorry, I'm a little unclear what you need to know.  Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to ask your OB anything!!  They do not judge you, they have heard it all I'm certain of that!!  If you have a question about your body, sex, etc...absolutely ask your Dr.
